The Science of AI-Powered Robo-Nurses: The Future of Medical Care

avatar

Greetings to my favorite science community online, StemSocial.

It's another awesome day and as is my tradition I'm happy to share another medical science blog to both insight and entertain my fellow science enthusiasts and medical practitioners.

In yesterday's blog post, since it was the last day of the month of October which is recognized in the world as "Breast Cancer Awareness month, I shared a blog Dedicated to spreading cancer awareness and talking about one particular procedure called Liquid Biopsies which makes the process of cancer detection easier for patients.

For today's blog post we're doing a discussion of both technology and medicine. The primary focus is in the medical field. Let's discuss the science of AI-Powered Robo-Nurses and how it will impact the future of patient care.

In the ever-evolving or advancing world of healthcare and medicine, there's a truly game changing innovation happening. It's the rise of AI-powered robo-nurses.

Robots designed with artificial intelligence algorithms to perform the duties of a real life nurse. You can imagine such a future and all the innovations that will come out of that.

These robotic caregivers are completely changing the game when it comes to taking care of patients.

Let's briefly discuss what they are like and the impact they're here to make in the medical field.

AI's Influence in Healthcare

Now one thing we're really aware of is the impact of Artificial Intelligence healthcare.

Artificial Intelligence is helping doctors and nurses with things like diagnosing and recommending treatments after diagnosing a patient.

Artificial Intelligence in itself has improved the accuracy, precision and speed of detecting dieseases and finding the right treatment.

Now AI is taking things to a whole other level. Instead of assisting the nurse to do her work better. The plan is to completely replace the nurse and do the entire job.

Now if nurses are reading this blog post, they might start to get worried about what the future holds for them if AI takes over their job.

But AI is not meant to completely take your place as a nurse but to still play an assistive role.

These robots nurses, whether they look like people or not, are here to lend a helping hand to healthcare or medical practitioners in all sorts of ways.

The duties of the robot nurses could range from keeping an eye on patients to reminding them to take their medication.

I quite remember the story of the death of the famous musician Michael Jackson.

It was mere negligence of the doctor assigned to watch over him. Michael Jackson had serious level insomnia and the doctor gave him sleeping drugs. Unfortunately he gave him a little bit of an overdose but it didn't react immediately.

It was when the doctor decided to pick a call outside that the reaction started. With no doctor there to handle the situation, Michael died a horrible death.

Now let's imagine if there was a robot nurse keeping an eye constantly on Michael Jackson, the robot would have alarmed everyone and they would have handled the situation. That could have saved a life.

This I believe is why it's super necessary to bring such an innovative idea as robot nurses on board.

Let's briefly discuss the benefits and advantages these robot Nurses will bring to the medical field.

Always There

The robot nurses are on the job 24/7. They take no coffee breaks and they take no nap time. This basically means that patients will be getting attention all day and all night.

The robot nurses can monitor the patients and assist them in anything they may need. If there's an emergency for the patient, the robot nurses can quickly alarm the doctors.

Reducing the Stress

With the robot nurses, Doctors and nurses can focus on the difficult tasks, while robo-nurses handle the routine tasks, like check-ups and medication reminders.

They could even handle writing the prescription, taking the data of new patients and delivering it to the doctors.

All of this will reduce the stress and burden for the doctors and nurses.

Data Masters

Now we all know how accurate robots, AI and computers can be. Imagine how accurate and precise patient data collection can become with robot nurses.

They will be able to literally scan the body of the patient to find out what's wrong with the patient even before asking what the symptoms are.

These robots can be really good at collecting and understanding patient data.

Now this will helps doctors spot issues early and give personalized care. The quicker the issues or sickness are detected the higher the chance of finding a solution.

Speaking Your Language

Ever seen a situation where there's an emergency and the doctor simply can't understand exactly what the patient trying to say so they call for an interpreter?

Robo-nurses can solve this no problem at all.

They are able to communicate with patients in different languages, making it easy to understand a patient speaking a different language during a medical emergency and also to make every patient at the hospital feel at home.

Safety First

One reason why I totally love the idea and innovation of nurses is the safety they bring in hospitals.

Sometimes, dangerous people can sneak into hospitals disguised as a friend to the patient, and when nobody is around or looking, they commit murder.

Now with Robot Nurses that are present 24/7, the patients are almost assured safety from incidents like that.

The robot nurses could immediately alarm security to come in when they sense any form of hostility with visitors.

Also, like the story I shared about the unfortunate death of Michael Jackson, the robots are able to quickly detect falls and call for help in emergencies.

Friendly Company

One of the best times people need companionship is when they're sick. However it's not everytime that the friends or family of patients would be available.

Robo-nurses aren't just about numbers and stats. They're also great companions, which can help patients fight off loneliness and depression.

They could be programmed to encourage and motivate patients to improve their recovery speed.

I would love to paint a perfect picture of what it would look like with robot nurses

Robo-Nurses in Action

Let's take for instance a woman named Mary
Mary is a 75-year-old patient recovering at home.

She has her robo-nurse, Rosie.

Now Rosie performs duties like regular checkups on Mary's vital signs, nags her (of course in a friendly way) to take her medication at the right time and has nice conversations with her.

When Rosie the robot senses something really off with Mary's health, it quickly sends a message to the doctor and sorts out Mary's issue.

This would mean quick help for Mary which would save her a trip back to the hospital.

Such an experience will definitely improve the assurance and speed of Mary's recovery.

The Hurdles and What to Think About

Now just like with all advanced and futuristic medical innovations and techs, it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

There are still somethings to work on, like keeping the information of patients private. Imagine if hackers hack into the robot nurse system and gets access to the health information of the patient. Confidentiality would be a problem to solve.

Also fixing tech glitches, and fitting these robots into the healthcare system is another challenge.

Now on top of all this, we've also got to think about the ethical concerns like especially when AI has to make big decisions about people's lives.

In emergency situations, the decision can determine everything. Leaving that decision to a robot could be another major problem to tackle I suppose.

So What's Next For Us?

The duo between these healthcare robots and human healthcare workers can be a total game changer in the medical field.

From better care and lower costs to happier patients.

I truly believe the future of healthcare is really bright with all these innovations coming in. As we keep growing in our knowledge and experience of science and technology, we will create a better future for generations to come.
