Plot

During World War II, Lieutenant General Leslie Groves Jr. appoints Dr. Physicist J. Roberts Oppenheimer to work on a top secret project to help overturn the war.
A new weapon, such that the world has never seen before was produced, and the effects of its use shook the world and even more violently, the established doctor's life.

This, like Arcane, is one of those shows which I didn't watch with everybody else.
I had seen memes and videos of it of course, also heard plenty of reviews, yet I didn't care not until the hype had finally died down.
Just finished watching it now and I can say, the full three hours spent were completely worth it!

This movie wasn't particularly flashy like a standard war film.
Instead, it decided to take the form of an interview or questioning. With mere flashbacks and sequences that showed different events leading up to the point at which the show began.
It was delicate, well thought out work that gave a certain feel of the show. So much elements were used to make it a success, although disorientating at first, a viewer soons get the flow and is stuck watching and understanding and finally moved by such a wonderful piece.

It was a fresh feel for me watching a movie play out from a trial.
It had a sense of mystery to the show in general and it made me as a viewer curious as to what Oppenheimer had done.

It indeed made me google for spoilers online.

"Was Oppenheimer put on trial?"

"Why was he on trial?

"Did he win the trial?"

So many questions developed in my mind from the first fifteen minutes and the best way to get them answered was for me to buckle down and immerse myself in the film.
A truly clever ploy by the scriptwriter in roping in the audience from the start.

- The Historical Accuracy.

For all who read my movie review blogs, it should be clear that I love animations, musical and historically inclined or accurate reproduced films.
Movies that make one learn about the past are lovely to me simply because of the fact that you're learning history in a fun, interactive way. Such is the power of cinema.

Oppenheimers movie crew were relentless in their historical accuracy. Finding a way to input 80% of factual history and still keep that intense general fans appeal. Surely another great feat of the script writer and crew that worked on this project.

- The Moral Quandary Scenes

These were the scenes that really got me interested.
The parts where the scientists were asking the big "What If" questions.
The bomb, after passing the theory aspects was becoming more and more real and so were the fears of the people who worked on it.

The power of what they were creating scared them, as it would any normal human, still as it was a service to their country and they were in war they had to do it.

We get to see just how the subject of Morality and Duty in science clash in these scenes. It's emotionally draining to watch and still at the same time refurbished your mind and gives you a new sense of respect for science as a whole.

Of course this is no glorification of the bomb which indeed claimed a lot of lives, its more of a nod of respect to the people who chose to be known as enemies to help keep their country safe.

All of this wouldn't have been possible without the wondrous talented set of actors and actresses that brought the show to life.
Universal studios really went in and emptied their wallets in Hollywood acting quarters as they brought in all the big shots.
The likes of Cillian Murphy, Emily Brunt, Robert Downy Jnr., Matt Damon, Jack Quaid and so much more.
Seeing so many well known and upcoming talented actors doing their best just brought the show to a whole new level.
It was an awesome thing to experience.

In summary, I guess I guess the Morality of science isn't really something that can be effectively gauged because a whole lot of factors are indeed put in play.
Robert Oppenheimer created the nuclear bomb which wiped out a fully populated city. He was ordered to. It was either, do it or die or be tortured till you agree to do it.
After creating the bomb, he went in campaign for its destruction and scrapping and suffered heavily for it.
Its not that there was no Morality, it's just that when faced with a much higher authority, the Morality of a single man just didn't matter.

Quite sad.

This show is a stunning 10 out of 10. I urge all my viewers should watch with an open mind.
It may be confusing, slow and seem boring at first, but of course, no great success worked fast. It builds slowly until the shapes of the masterpiece comes out✨
