This article explains the relationship between hypertension, renal function and obesity. It pays particular attention to the pressure-natriuresis mechanism and its impairment in obesity, through activations of the sympathetic nervous system and of the renin-angiotensin system.

Leptin seems to be related to sympathetic nervous system activation at the level of the kidneys.
In addition to that obesity seems to activate the renin angiotensin system.
