I simply bought the old Google mesh system with three white packs and it works wonderful. The speed is reduced from 1 Gigabit to around 860 Megabit... So not half and I think in my case it is because that is an old system and it is all that it can handle...

Does it really happen like speed reduces after adding router extension?

It all depends on a specific hardware and software setup. It is possible that in the system you bought that is the case, but not in google mesh.
