First impressions are powerful because they often shape how people see us before we even get the chance to explain ourselves. In just a few seconds, people notice things like appearance, tone, body language, and confidence, and from that, they start forming opinions. These early judgments may not always be accurate, but they tend to stick, influencing how others respond to us moving forward.

Because of this, first impressions can open doors or quietly close them. A good first impression can create trust, interest, and respect, while a poor one can create doubt or distance. Even though people can change their opinions over time, it usually takes more effort to undo a negative impression than to maintain a positive one from the start.
