Tasers: Invented to Neutralize but Instead End People's Lives

The growth in human civilization and the advancement in technology are accomplishments that we can credit among the many inventions that was made over time, making the life of people more comfortable and their work more easier. This leads us to think that whenever there is a new invention, we generally believed that it will benefit the people but sometimes, this is not always the case. There were times that instead of serving the people, this inventions could end up hurting them and at worst, killing them in the process and yet, people still keeps on using them. In this post, I will tell the dangers of the invention called Taser Gun that were use by law enforcements to supposedly Safely apprehend suspects.

What you see above was a Stun Gun which I bought way back 2020 as a sort of self defense weapon whenever I go out specially, during night. It has a built in flashlight which allows me to see in the dark and 5500 Volts of electricity which is enough to put an aggressor to their knees. I can vouch for it as I have tried it on my self and my friends before out of fun and curiosity. This tool was commonly seen to be used by the police to subdue noncompliant suspects instead of resorting to guns which all of us know to have the capability to kill people. With time, improvements was made on the Stun Gun and from a short range tool, it was shaped to look like a gun with a trigger that shoots wires on mid range that conducts electricity which we called Taser Gun.

Upon shooting, Taser Gun releases 50,000 volts of electricity which was about 4x more powerful than my Stun Gun which cause the target to immediately fell into the ground and alone, could cause grave injuries to the suspects depending on how the people will fall but at the same time, the continued and repeated use of Tasers could result for the death of the suspect in question specially when they have hearth problems or when the officers using it lacks proper training. Just add it with a cop on a power trip, and it will be a recipe for disaster. According to this Article, there have been around 500 deaths in U.S. alone that are related with tasers between 2010-2021 but with no accurate tracking, the numbers could be more than what is the estimated numbers and would likely have grown from now. Despite this, the police has no intention to stop its use nor any regulations for its use have been implemented and very few of the law enforcements have been punished by such acts so they just continued the misuse of the tool.

Suspects whether they are compliant or not are considered before proven guilty by the court and the role of the law enforcers was to uphold the law, not to be the Jury and the use of Tasers was supposedly designed to get them safely but because their voltage was too strong, its use could result in someone's death so in my opinion, instead of relying for such tools, law enforcements should have more de- escalation training to convince the suspects to comply. Fortunately, such tools was not used on my country and I hope for it to not be used in the future.

That was it for this post. Thank you and see you at the next one.

This is a reminder that even when someone is invented and given a very good and inspiring use-case, it can easily be turned around and used for the wrong reason when it gets into the hands of the wrong person.

These things should be used for self defense, but most people use it to attack people and rob them.

yeah it was invented with the idea of safe apprehension by the law enforcement or a self defense but was incredibly dangerous when misused. I even saw a video 4 months ago when an innocent man mistaken to be a burglar got tase and dies and is where I get the idea with my post.

New inventions are not bad, but we should use them in a guardian way. It was the first time, I came to know about Teaser Gun from you. Its electric shock is good to strike the suspecting person. On the other hand, we should take notice of its bad use if it is used by terrorists, it is a good post.

They were mostly used of rich countries such as in U.S. and most people will probably know them by watching movies so sometimes I credited my country to be not wealthy and the authorities do not have the budget for them and instead resort to more traditional way of detaining suspects such as de-escalation training.
