Live Fish Fry

Live Fish tastes much better

20211222_102020.jpg

Usually I do not get live fish always - by the time I go they are all sold out. I do not want to sacrifice my exercise to go very early in the morning. Today somehow, I got a chance to get a live fish from market. I did take the opportunity to shoot some visuals and edited them for you. These are all cultivated fish - unlike the happiest fishes from the dam. The dam fish is more tasty - they also weigh more - 4/5 kg minimum. But they never reach market , they sold out there itself. The government is giving nice subsidy for fish farming - that is why we see these live fishes. The vendors bring them in a small truck - they put a big plastic on the back side of a mini carrier and then fill it with water and a pump and leave these fishes inside. And then they give it to these sellers , who keep them inside small containers. Do you know how to recognize if a fish is fresh or not ? Usually people look at the gills , but actually the eyes are the best indicator of freshness. You can check both as well.

Me and my son decided not to cook anything special - instead just taste the fish fry (because the lady does not eat on any other day except Wednesday) - authentic fish taste alone. Just clean it, put some turmeric powder, salt, mix it well and fry it with mustard oil. That's it - quite simple isn't it ? When served hot, you can eat a lot.

The taste of very good fresh fish is also incomparable. If it is caught and caught, its taste increases even more. The fish is the only thing that the doctor does not forbid any patient. If it is river, it is very tasty

Ya, fish from river are the happiest ones - that is why they taste better 😀 - they eat all natural food.

I have eaten live freshwater fish when I travelled down South areas of Sri Lanka. It's more tasty after fried. Usually we connot buy live fish from the market or street sellers. After cut slices of fish, very deserve to add turmeric powder, salt, pepper and chili powder and seasoned. After few minutes later fry seasoned live fish. It was our recipe of my previous travel experience.

Ya, adding a bit of pepper and chili will make it more spicy and tasty as well - we usually don't eat chili.

Katla fish fry. Katla fish is really very tasty. The head of this fish is very big and very tasty to eat. The color of the frying pan has become very beautiful.

No doubt about it! Fresh is best! I love the idea of frying them in mustard oil! Does it give fish that slightly mustard flavour?

Ya, cook any non-veg in mustard oil once and taste and tell me.

As soon as I find some I will definitely try it out. I may just have to make an entire mustard oil post!!

I don't really like river fish because it has a lot of bones. What is the name of your fish, it is very similar to our "carp"

Buffalo fish - Catla - Labeo catla are some of the names. If you eat the top portion, then it will have less bones, especially the stomach side will have bones, that can easily be taken out. That is the reason, I always get the stomach side - they charge a bit more but its ok to pay a bit more once in a week.

Is there a special type of fish for the average person to think about? How many ml mustered oil do you need for 500 grams of fry or fish? How does it taste here.

75 - 100 ml should be fine - but the only limitation is you can fry few at one time. Sometimes we use more, if we have plan to make the curry - we use the leftover oil. But since this was fry, so we did it on a pan with less oil.

Fresh fish taste is too much. The taste of fish kept in the fridge decreases a lot. The fish are looking to eat. Ah, What fun!

We do not keep non-veg in fridge - the lady won't allow that :)

Couldn´t even watch the video. Poor half dead fish left in tiny plastic boxes or even in direct sunlight without any water, just dying slowly in agony... Sorry but all I can see here is animal cruelty :(

My daughter says that - she is vegan for that reason :)

I am not a vegan, not even a vegetarian, I still eat meat (although I have been trying to reduce my meat consumption and I try to get meat and animal products from farms where the animals are treated with respect and care). But what I can see in the video is just absolutely needless torture of animals that could have been killed quickly and painlessly. Honestly, I was quite surprised to see something like this on your blog, I got the impression from your previous posts that you are a sensitive person who cares about the environment and wellbeing of not just humans but all living beings. I thought it´s actually also a part of the Hindu religion. Now I am a bit confused and disappointed. Also because nobody else here in the comments seem to even notice the unnecessary suffering of those fish, even people like @madushanka who often call himself an animal lover...

I felt the pinch while recording this as well.

Do you know how to recognize if a fish is fresh or not ?

I am not that expert but whenever I wish to buy i take one of my close friend with me as he is an expert. He has been in Fish business recently. I am trying to learn from him.

Thanks for sharing ❤️.

Hopefully, you will not need him anymore - the eyes should tell it all - if not, then look at the gills.

This makes me feel sick. Why would anyone do this to anything? I thought it was a joke post when it showed up in my feed.
