The problem with antivirus

avatar

Windows has more than 90% of computer users in the world, my intention with this post is not to create distrust or paranoia, but to clarify the situation regarding the misuse of antivirus, most of the virus database are created to attack Windows vulnerabilities, this may be because it is the operating system with more users so it is easier to reach the masses.

The antivirus works as follows, there is a database list where there is a set of programs, licensed software that are checked by the antivirus if the extension of the program is not licensed or is not in the antivirus list this will be flagged as a virus.

Antivirus misuse

Installing more than one antivirus on the computer is a mistake because there will be a conflict when trying to scan and analyze the files at the same time collapsing the computer, if you are going to use antivirus make sure it is only one.

Misidentification of antivirus programs that un-hide files from USB sticks are not antivirus programs are made to remove the properties of hidden files that a virus may have hidden.

Allowing the antivirus to have full access is bad because it can delete files it thinks are suspicious and if they are not in its database they will be deleted without consulting the user.

The antivirus companies have two types of users the free user and the user that pays a subscription the free user does not receive the complete list of virus so it will not detect the newest viruses besides that it will continue eliminating files that are not virus for not being in its list.

The performance problem

The antivirus greatly affect the performance of computers especially if they are configured to start from the beginning of the operating system so it is important to configure them to start manually, and also only make scans when the user requests it to avoid, that is activated during a process where we require all the performance of the computer.

Personal recommendations

I do not use antivirus because I have prepared myself to recognize and attack them, but if you are going to use an antivirus try to perform manual scans, deactivate the antivirus if you are going to install a program that does not have a license, save your most important files in RAR ZIP or ISO format that way they will be more protected, if you want me to make a post on how to store our documents in the formats mentioned above let me know in the comments. See you in the next post.

this is cool because the effectiveness of some of the antivirus is not really know again. doing manual scanning before the anti-virus is a good idea.
