Minerals Mondays #81 Mineral Bizzare!

avatar

There is a popular Men's magazine in Japan called Brutus. Last year they released an issue fully dedicated to minerals, the science of them, the art, the hunters and how they can be used in your home or office as an accessory. Mineral collectors were blown away by how well everything came together. Apparently it was a big hit because they are back this year with Bizzare Mineral Handbook #2.

Just released a week ago, the magazine has done it again with an incredible homage to gems and minerals. They have even set up a pop up shop showcasing the issue along with some of the minerals featured in a rental space in Daikanyama, Tokyo, next to Shibuya.

If that wasn't enough, they made this awesome promotional video for the issue too.

I don't want to post any of the photos from the magazine because of copyright, but you can go to their website and see the incredibly beautiful images here https://brutus.jp/magazine/issue/985/ .
Instead I will post some recent pictures my wife and I have been taking. Enjoy the beautiful show!

A beautifully colored smoky quartz from the Inyo Mountains, CA.

An amethyst cluster from Kingston Range, CA. Ex. Dana Gochenours.

Woodhouseite from the Champion Mine, Inyo Co., CA.

A nice Laguna Agate from Mexico.

Root Beer Fluorite With Celestine from Clay Center, Ohio.

Under long wave UV

Fluorescent minerals are a whole different world!

A beautiful azurite & malachite collected by a friend. From Ord Mountain, CA

And lastly, my prized Benitoite, Neptunite & Joaquinite plate. These are extremely rare and very expensive. From the Benitoite Gem Mine, San Benito County, CA

I'm very happy to see minerals shown in such fashion as Brutus is doing. Not only are minerals fun to mine & collect, but as you can see in Brutus magazine, they are high art, nature's art. Full of color, shape and size they are something awesome to look at, admire & display.

If you have questions about minerals I am happy to help. I also sell minerals that I mine & buy from other miners and dealers. Our American shop is here https://www.etsy.com/shop/Rt395Minerals .

If you want a copy of the Brutus Bizzare Mineral Handbook go to their site at the link above and there is an option to order it from Amazon Japan. I think you can only get the digital version though. We purchased several copies and I will bring some back from Japan later this summer.

That's it this week. Thanks for reading!
