As simple as the word accountability may seem, many individuals find it hard to be accountable for their actions or for anything at all; they tend to look for someone or something to blame, blaming others for their actions and inactions rather than manning up to take the fall in order to learn from it. An individual like myself will understand the topic of accountability better, as I have seen firsthand at my workplace, where nobody wants to be held accountable for anything and tries as much as possible to pass responsibility or blame to the next available person.

It is important as a team to hold each other accountable and take responsibility for your actions and inactions. Where this is not applicable and blame is being pushed to others, it could be seen as a toxic workplace or environment. People here find it difficult to hold themselves accountable for anything and will always push the blame to the next person.

The unfortunate thing that was happening was that the Junior-level staff members usually took the blame for what they were not responsible for. When given a query, they tend to apologise for what they have not done rather than explaining their own part of the story. Find out what has been transpiring, I took it upon myself that the senior colleagues took responsibility for their actions by helping the junior colleagues understand what accountability was and the importance of being accountable for only their own actions and not allowing others to hold them accountable for what they may not have done or a fault that was not their own.

Being accountable means that one accepts his or her fault by owning it and trying also to fix it in order to see that it never occurs or happens again, while blaming others only looks for a scapegoat to punish or to hold for the mistake of an action or the result of inaction.
