Reviewing my new ear buds - Redmi Buds Lite 4 [ENG/ESP]

After two years of extensive use my old headphones (Tzumi Pro Buds) finally broke down, and despite being very cheap, I admit I was surprised by their performance... Good battery life, nice design inspired by the original air pods, and after a couple of days of use you get used to their weight.

The thing was, I understood that now that these had finally finished their cycle, I needed to buy a pair of ear buds that were a little more "premium", even if it meant spending more money.

So I started my research, overwhelmed with the sheer number of brands like Realme, Motorola, JBL, Samsung, and Xiaomi at our disposal.

When I make purchases of this type, the first thing I do to start ruling out alternatives is to think about the amount of money I am willing to spend, and in this case I would feel satisfied with a budget of 20 to 30 dollars, in this way I can start to evaluate specific characteristics (but rational) that can be found in that price range, as well as other more superficial factors (physical appearance, brand, extra accessories, etc).

As I previously mentioned, most smartphone and technology brands offer their own alternative to Apple's iconic air pods, a relatively new trend in the market that, in the end, surprisingly ended up becoming the industry standard when looking for headphones.

There are options in all colors and sizes, some use protective rubber for the speakers, some mark the charge level with LEDs in their box, others support fast charging, etc.

Now, why did I decide to opt for the Redmi Buds lite 4? The explanation is quite simple and meets all the criteria that I have just mentioned, including the fact that there was a synergy of brands (Xiaomi) with that of my current SmartPhone: a Mi 11 Lite.

Doing some research about it, I discovered that Bluetooth technology had improved considerably in recent years, and there were many features available in this pair of ear buds that previously would only have been present in a more expensive alternative: the fast pair and the possibility of knowing the latest hearing aid placement.

In essence, the fast pair is a Google service available with some headphones that use Bluetooth 5.0 (or more), which allows them to be paired to our phone with greater speed and shows specific information in our notification bar such as the charge level of which hearing aid independent or the one in the same box.

Although it sounds silly, these types of details seem important to me in the long term, and I think that added to each other, they end up providing a more premium experience regardless of the sound quality.

In more practical terms, we can say that the Buds lite 4 "copy" the visual design of the air pods pro 2, something that results in a minimalist design without rubber (unlike the buds lite 3) which honestly seems very nice to me aesthetically.

After reviewing a couple of reviews I decided that these ear buds were perfect for me, and besides, at least in retail they met the price I expected ($25) although I was obviously willing to pay a higher amount considering the lack of official stores of Xiaomi in the area of Venezuela where I live.

That's how I stumbled across AyM, a relatively new store that sells electronics and is located nearby in a well known mall in my town, and I was already determined to buy them.

Logically, the price was a bit higher ($30), but I think it was still fair.

Without giving it much thought, I went to the store, asked to do a little test on them and I bought them.

Now, how is the experience of the Redmi Buds Lite 4?

Consistent with most of the reviews and critiques I've seen, the buds lite 4 are extremely compact headphones, they have a nice design and are not at all uncomfortable despite lacking rubber bands.

The audio quality is extremely good, although they are not powerful enough to drown out external noise in a very demanding situation.

The basses are very well done and there is no distortion of any kind, a virtue that my old Tzumi pro Buds lacked.

Its color is black and although it is not my favorite among the options that were available on the internet (White, green and even orange) I admit that they are charming and blend very well with the color of my phone.

Battery life (both earbuds and case) is very good, and they feature a Type-C port and cable, are subtle, and have quite functional touch control.

Anyway, I feel like I made a good purchase, obviously they don't have noise cancellation, but generally speaking they are a solid and cheap piece of technology, obviously the only thing that will determine if they are really good or not is the passage of time, but at least for the moment I feel very satisfied.

Luego de dos años de uso extensivo mis viejos audífonos (Unos Tzumi Pro Buds) finalmente se dañaron, y, a pesar de que eran muy económicos, admito que su rendimiento me sorprendió... Tenían buena batería, un diseño agradable que se inspiraba en los air pods originales, y luego de un par de días de uso te acostumbradas a su peso.

La cuestión era que entendía que ahora que finalmente estos habían cumplido su ciclo, necesitaba comprar un par de ear buds que fuesen un poco más "premium", aunque esto implicara gastar más dinero.

Así fue que empecé mi investigación, abrumado con la gran cantidad de marcas como Realme, Motorola, JBL, Samsung y Xiaomi que se encuentran a nuestra disposición.

Cuando realizo compras de este tipo lo primero que hago para empezar a descartar alternativas es pensar en que cantidad de dinero me encuentro dispuesto a gastar, y en este caso me sentiría conforme con un presupuesto de 20 a 30 dólares, de esta forma puedo empezar a evaluar características concretas (Pero racionales) que de pueden encontrar en ese rango de precio, así como otros factores más superficiales (Aspecto físico, marca, accesorios extra, etc).

Cómo mencioné previamente la mayoría de las marcas de smartphones y tecnología ofrecen su propia alternativa a los iconicos air pods de Apple, una tendencia relativamente nueva en el mercado que, al final, sorpresivamente terminó convirtiéndose en el standard de la industria a la hora de buscar unos audífonos.

Hay opciones en todos los colores y tamaños, algunos usan gomas protectoras para los speakers, algunos marcan el nivel de carga con LEDs en su caja, otros soportan carga rápida, etc.

Ahora, ¿Por qué decidí decantarme por los Redmi Buds lite 4? La explicación es bastante simple y atiende a todos los criterios que acabo de mencionar, incluyendo el hecho de que había una sinergia de marcas (Xiaomi) con la de mi SmartPhone actual: un Mi 11 Lite.

Investigando un poco al respecto descubrí que la tecnología Bluetooth había mejorado considerablemente estos últimos años, y existían muchas features disponibles en este par de ear buds que anteriormente solo hubiesen estado presentes en una alternativa más cara: el fast pair y la posibilidad de saber la última ubicación de los audífonos.

En escencia, el fast pair es un servicio de Google disponible con algunos auriculares que usan Bluetooth 5.0 (o más), que permite emparejarlos a nuestro teléfono con mayor velocidad y muestra información específica en nuestra barra de notificaciones como el nivel de carga de que audífono independiente o el de la misma caja.

Aunque suene como una tontería este tipo de detalles me parecen importantes a largo plazo, y creo que sumados entre si terminan brindando una experiencia más premium independientemente de la calidad del sonido.

En términos más prácticos, podemos decir que los Buds lite 4 "copian" el diseño visual de los air pods pro 2, algo que deviene en un diseño minimalista y sin gomas (A diferencia de los buds lite 3) que honestamente me parece muy agradable estéticamente.

Luego de revisar un par de reseñas decidí que estos ear buds eran perfectos para mí, y aparte, al menos en retail cumplían con el precio que esperaba ($25) aunque obviamente estaba dispuesto a pagar un monto más alto considerando la falta de tiendas oficiales de Xiaomi en el área de Venezuela en la que vivo.

Así fue como me topé con AyM, una tienda relativamente nueva que vende dispositivos electrónicos y que cuenta con una sede en un centro comercial bastante concurrido, ya estaba decidido a comprarlos.

Lógicamente, el precio estaba un poco más elevado ($30), pero creo que seguia siendo justo.

Sin darle muchas vueltas me dirigí a la tienda, pedí hacerles unas pequeñas pruebas y los compré.

Ahora bien, ¿Que tal es la experiencia de los Redmi Buds Lite 4?

Coincidiendo con la mayoría de los reviews y críticas que ví, los buds lite 4 son unos auriculares extremadamente compactos, tienen un diseño agradable y no resultan para nada incómodos a pesar de carecer de gomas.

La calidad del audio es extremadamente buena, aunque no resultan lo suficientemente potentes como para ahogar el ruido externo en una situación muy exigente.

Los bajos están muy bien hechos y no existe ningún tipo de distorsión, una virtud de la que carecían mis antiguos Tzumi pro Buds.

Su color es negro y aunque no es mi favorito entre las opciones que habían disponibles en internet (Blanco, verde y hasta naranja) admito que tienen encanto y se mezcla muy bien con el color de mi teléfono.

La duración de la batería (tanto de los auriculares como de la caja) es muy buena y cuentan con un puerto y un cable de tipo C, son sutiles y cuentan con un control táctil bastante funcional.

En fin, siento que hice una buena compra, obviamente no tienen cancelación de ruido, pero en términos generales son una pieza de tecnología sólida y económica, obviamente lo único que determinará si son realmente buenos o no es el paso del tiempo, pero al menos de momento me siento muy satisfecho.
