Not so Easy Mode with the Phone!
So I headed out to do some interviewing yesterday, and used my phone's SatNav to get to my destination, and when I arrived noticed my screen settings had changed....
Basically I had three app-icons across and the icons were bigger, and when I went to type something the keyboard was high contrast.
I had to dive straight into an interview so I couldn't change the settings there and then, but I just thought to myself 'I must have nerfed a shortcut key and altered the accessibility options'.
Anyway, I had to rush off to a second interview and then after that to a third, but I did attempt to change my display back in the 5 minutes I had available between each interviewing slot, but I couldn't figure out how.
Neither at lunch time, none of the options on 'display' via settings seemed to offer me the option of changing my grid layout, and I spent 10 minutes having a good scroll through to see what other sub-menu items might give me what I want.
Back home...
When I got home I tried good old YouTube and videos there told me where I wanted to go, but that had been where I'd already been, and the 'grid layout' option that was on the videos WASN'T on my phone! WTF....?
I was now wondering whether a recent software update was maybe to blame....?
Samsung Support...
I have a Samsung phone, so after I'd waded through the USELESS AI bot I finally got through to someone, and they were as baffled as I was after a soft reset didn't sort everything out.
Anyway, EVENTUALLY, and they had to consult with someone else they came back and told me to go into settings and find something called 'easy mode' which I found, and somehow this was switched on (that's what I'd nerfed without realising), I switched it off and lo and behold my 4 by 5 grid came back!
Set in my ways...?
This whole episode got me to thinking... I HATED that 3 by 5 grid layout, I'm so used to my 4 by 5 layout, but probably more annoying than that was the thought of not being able to customise my phone the way I wanted.
In the end I guess it's a lesson in being more flexible!
Oh, and if you every want to ANNOY someone with a Samsung, switch on 'easy mode', they'll probably never figure out what's going on!

LOL! I most of us never explore all the settings on our phones or computers. It's possible to change them without having someone pop up to confirm you want to do it. I have managed to change the language in an app and then had to navigate the menus that I couldn't really read to change it back.
I've never had a Samsung phone. I tend to go for those with standard Android.
i bought a Google Pixel phone recently so i could have a good de-googled phone :-). Pixels are the only phones officially supported by grapheneOS which is apparently the best OS to use for privacy & security. So i've been spending quite a lot of time looking at all the settings. And i'm very happy to have made the change.
It's definitely a joke to do eh eh!
But you know that I have actually also realized that I have now become so accustomed to the settings and layouts of my phone that when something changes I feel a little destabilized.
To think that I feel very flexible and open-minded, there is nothing to be done, habits must be fought in all fields otherwise they will take over us!
