Just Love my Garmin Tracking Data!
I've had my new Garmin 245 for a couple of months now and I only just got around to looking at the app on my phone a few days ago, and I was happily surprised about the sheer amount of health data that's being tracked...
There's a lot of it, a lot more than with my previous Garmin...
Last workout and Heart Rate
Last workout is what I'm used to with my old Garmin, standard stuff, but heart rate I think is new - this will actually be a little on the high side I think because I've been taking the Garmin off at night.
Also segmented into different intensities, and if you click on that segment you get to see daily/ weekly/ monthly averages!
Body Battery/ Stress/ Intensity/ Steps and Calories...
TBH I'm not even sure what body batter is, I think it's a calculation of how much you need to rest based on your age given the amount of high/ medium intensity exercise you've done... if I click on this it tells me I'm overdoing it and I should ease of a little, which I'm inclined to ignore as I feel fine!
And I'm enjoying the step counter and the calories are a bonus...
Sleep tracking...!
Delighted to find this...
Sleep broken down into light, deep and REM... I am a pretty light sleeper, and I think I had a few beers the night before this so that wouldn't have helped....
And an ego boost to boot...
VO2 Max is to do with how much oxygen you can take in - I knew mine was pretty good - NB if you run anything over 400 metres it's basically lung capacity rather than muscles that limit you, so this is crucial....
And a fitness age of 20, well I do compete with younglings at Park Run, or at least I used to, I'm a bit out of form now, but maybe in a few months time I'll get back to it, once I'm getting back to my old pace, that'll be a couple of months at least I think!
Garmin Tracking Data - downsides....?
I am aware that Garmin has a lot of health data on me - and all of it time stamped so the agencies it sells the data on to (which it probably does) will know when I'm tired and hungry, so that doesn't bode well for future protein bar adverts and the like in my feed, but I find those pretty resistible given the insane prices.
And I've gotten into this habit of feeling like I need to wear the damned watch like all the time now, even when sleeping, as I like the damned data, it's like it's a part of me!
But these are things I can live with!
I do love a bit of self-tracking, especially when things are on the up, probably wouldn't be as much fun if I wasn't so damned fit for my age!
!LOL you just got me.
I was upto 52 at the start of the year but have not been struggling with a strained ankle recently.
52 is nice - always the way with injury. I take it easy these days to avoid that!
Awesome! I love my Garmin. The body battery is not the most useful I think, but the other stats are great.
I like very much that it can recognize walking and will start to register that after 5 minutes of continuous walking. You can set it to 10 minutes too if you don’t want to register short walks.
The sleep tracking is one that I look at most. My 2,5 year old son still regularly wakes up during the night and is usually very early in the morning. Still I try to get about 7 hours of sleep.
I had a TomTom before, but the Garmin is much better/more refined
The Garmin is great right! I didn't realise that about walking!
Yeah, it is hidden somewhere in the settings 😅
This Garmin 245 does a great job of helping you track your exercise rate, calories, stress, intensity, steps, etc. It's an amazing watch in my opinion. And I am glad that its helping you stay on track with your fitness goals.
It's true that since they have a lot of data on you, they will be able to sell those off to advertisers. But it's all good since you have a way of resisting a purchase.
All the best to you, sir. Stay fit!
Is the heart rate during the running or after? Looks okay.
I think it's just a daily average.
I don't actually look at the Garmin app much as i just saw what it seems to Strava. It does look like my VO2 max is good. I don't wear the watch when i sleep though. I think i sleep fairly well generally.
Nice!
Mind you, it also predicts that I could run a 5k in 22 mins and I'm nowhere near that unless I have power I have not exploited yet.
I'm sure you have that in you!
We shall see. I'll be happy if I can maintain under 5min/km for longer than a few hundred metres.
