  1. Six of the best Mozart operas - Out of Mozart's 22 operas, classical-music.com chose the 6 best. (Note that classical-music.com is not affiliated with the Steem @classical-music account) The list includes: Idomeneo, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, La Clemenza di Tito, and The Magic Flute. The article contains descriptions and embedded youtube videos.

Here's the youtube video with the Overture from Don Giovanni:

  • How The Shawshank Redemption Went from Box Office Bomb to Contemporary Classic - It may come as a surprise, but when the classic movie, The Shawshank Redemption left theaters in 1994, it had only recouped $16 million of its $25 to $28 budget. Apparently, the movie's main trouble in the theaters was John Travolta, because it had to compete with the blockbuster, Pulp Fiction. In 1995, however, the film was nominated for 7 academy awards. Although it didn't win, the nominations prompted Warner Brothers to re-release it to theaters, where it earned another $12 million. And the company did even better when they released 320,000 copies on the film on VHS and the video sales frequently even outpaced the popular phenomenon, Forrest Gump. It reached its ultimate level of popular classic when Ted Turner's TNT network acquired cable rights to the movie, and made it a regular feature in their schedule. The article also reports that: "For the film’s 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. and Turner Classic Movies are teaming to re-release The Shawshank Redemption theatrically via Fathom Events in select locations on September 22, 24, and 25", so if you want to enjoy it in the theater, this may be your chance.

  • Stephen King's The Institute getting a limited TV series adaptation - Stephen King's latest novel, The Institute is getting a TV adaptation from David E. Kelley of Big Little Lies and Jack Bender of Lost. The adaptation is being done for Spyglass Media Group. Bender will direct the series, and both Bender and Kelley will be executive producers. Apparently, the story follows a similar line to the X-Men or The Rook, where kids with super-natural talents are educated in special schools that nurture their abilities, but King adds the twist that the school takes custody of the kids by murdering their parents.

  • Five of the best twelve-tone works - I'm not particularly a fan of 12 tone music, but I'm bookmarking this list from classical-music.com to enhance my open-mindedness by listening to the pieces when time allows. Composers include: Schoenberg, Berg, Boulez, Copland, and Stravinsky. (As before, classical-music.com is not affiliated with Steem's @classical-music account.)

  • STEEM Georg Friedrich Kauffmann, Fuga "Vater unser im Himmelreich". - Here is a Steem post with an embedded youtube video where @partitura plays Vater unser im Himmelreich (Our Father in Heaven) on organ. The piece is a fugue by Georg Friedrich Kauffmann
