The mouse of the future that fits on a finger.

For decades, engineers and designers have tried to reinvent the way we interact with computers, but now a company called Prolo seems to have finally done it, a smart ring weighing just 5 grams that promises to transform your gestures into precise commands on the computer without buttons, cables or effort.

Called Prolo Ring, the device was recently launched on Kickstarter and reached its funding goal in just 9 minutes. At first glance it looks more like a jewel than a piece of technology, that's what the company says, but to be honest, to me it looks like a piece of PVC water pipe, but despite its questionable appearance, just place it on your index finger to notice that it is actually a complete mini trackpad.

Its operation is ingeniously simple, a six-axis motion sensor and a thumb-sensitive touch surface allow you to move the cursor, click, scroll through pages and even zoom with just gestures. The system recognizes more than 40 different commands, all customizable, from opening windows and videos to running complex macros.

It is as if the user had the power of an invisible mouse controlled by the air and according to the company the learning curve is minimal, “most people get used to it in 5 minutes.” The ring already does everything it would do with a common mouse and without thinking and that is what makes the prolo ring interesting, it is not only a futuristic accessory, but a new type of interaction between the body and the machine, despite that, the ring still has limitations, for extreme precision tasks such as 3D modeling or photographic retouching, it works better as a complement and not as a substitute, even so, its universal compatibility via Bluetooth, 8-hour autonomy and recharging through a portable plug with 30 days of use, make it a of the most practical ideas on the wearable technology market.

If Prolo's plans go well, the first batch will reach consumers in December, and perhaps in the near future, typing, clicking and browsing will no longer be separate actions, becoming part of a single natural, fluid and almost invisible gesture.
