The Most Advanced Home Robot

Wave Robotics developed Isaac 1, a home assistant designed to perform practical tasks at a much lower cost than its competitors. Before tackling the complexity of real homes, the startup trained its algorithms using Isaac 0, a stationary robot capable of folding hundreds of kilos of laundry per week at an automated laundromat in California. After accumulating millions of movements and corrections, they used that experience to develop a model capable of moving freely around the house and performing various household tasks.

The engineering behind Isaac 1 follows a philosophy quite different from that of most current humanoids. Instead of articulated legs, it uses a much simpler and more economical mobile base on wheels; its telescopic body automatically adjusts its height, ranging from approximately 90 cm to about 1.75 cm, allowing it to reach everything from laundry baskets to countertops and high cabinets. Instead of complex five-fingered hands, the robot uses high-grip mechanical grippers developed specifically to safely handle clothing, towels, household items, and small utensils.

The entire system runs on batteries that provide about 8 hours of continuous operation, requiring approximately 2 hours for a full recharge. The choice of wheels is also part of the company’s strategy; according to its developers, most modern homes have flat floors, which eliminates the need for the mechanical complexity of a bipedal robot. In addition to significantly reducing energy consumption, this solution simplifies maintenance and lowers the final cost of the equipment.

When the system encounters a situation that the artificial intelligence cannot yet resolve on its own, another key feature comes into play: remote operation. Within seconds, a remote human operator can temporarily take control of the robot via the internet, and after overcoming the obstacle, hand control back to the artificial intelligence, allowing the system itself to learn from that experience for similar situations in the future.
