Phaeacius malayensis spider
On a beautiful and peaceful morning, I returned to exploring the outdoors. The sun was just beginning to shine, and the birds weren't singing much yet, perhaps still asleep due to the frigid air. Lately, almost every morning has been very cold. But that's a boon for nature observers like me. Many of nature's tiny creatures are still fast asleep. Like this spider I encountered, it was still sleeping soundly on a fresh green leaf.
At first, I didn't think it was a spider on the leaf, I thought it was a piece of dried leaf stuck there. Because its color was so similar to a dried leaf, I almost passed it by. I approached even closer to observe it. Once there, I clearly saw it was a spider. Without further ado, I immediately turned on my phone's camera to take a picture.
My heart skipped a beat when I accidentally touched the leaf where the spider had landed. I was afraid it would leave me. But my fears did not come true, the spider remained there, very calm, as if nothing had happened. Its demeanor further amazed me. As I took the photo, I couldn't stop praising him, even though he didn't respond.
This spider isn't just an ordinary little creature, it's an explorer of a world we don't fully understand. He walks without a map, let alone a compass, yet strangely, he never gets lost even once in the forest. It's truly a miracle.
The tiny eyes on its head kept staring at the camera, but unfortunately, the details weren't very clear. Please understand that I was only using a regular phone and didn't have any special equipment to photograph such a tiny creature. Its gaze was very calm and serene, perhaps it knew I was just trying to take a picture.
In Latin, this spider is known as Phaeacius malayensis, a name suggested directly by inaturalist when I uploaded my observations there. It belongs to the Salticidae family. I don't yet know the Indonesia or English names. If any of you know, please let me know in the comments.
