Orthopagus lunulifer

Beneath the hustle and bustle of busy human life, nature secretly holds a small miracle waiting to be discovered. A tiny insect rests peacefully on the edge of a green leaf. It's Orthopagus lunulifer. This insect doesn't have an official name in Indonesian or English. I tried using Google, but couldn't find one. I only found its Latin name on inaturalist when I uploaded a picture of it to that platform.

This insect is one of the most unique insects I've ever encountered. At first glance, it closely resembles a fly. Two things that easily distinguish this Orthopagus lunulifer from a fly are its antennae and wings. This insect's antennae are located below its compound eyes, while a fly's antennae are located at the top of its head. As for its wings, this insect has wings that are longer than its body. A fly, on the other hand, has short wings and its buttocks are visible.

The charm of this insect is truly extraordinary, its entire body decorated with intricate patterns. Upon closer inspection, these intricate patterns resemble carvings found on ancient jewelry. Such unique patterns are rare among other insects. It's truly unique and attractive. Not only that, but the color combination is also very beautiful: brown, black, white, and blue blend beautifully in one frame.

Some really interesting shots of insect species. And you've captured some really perfect, cool angles, and I really like them. Are there many insect species like this in your area?
