Larva of the beetle Henosepilachna pusillanima

avatar

On a green leaf full of traces of life, I found a caterpillar, or larva, of the beetle Henosepilachna pusillanima. The caterpillar was very small and appeared to be doing nothing. To the naked eye, it looked like it was fast asleep, but when I took a photo and zoomed in, I discovered it was enjoying a delicious meal: the fresh green leaf it was perched on.

Judging by the numerous holes in the leaf's trail, the caterpillar was quite voracious. This was evidence that it was diligently gathering energy for its future, entering the pupal stage. Once in the pupal stage, it no longer ate; it simply remained there in the dark, cramped space. A space leading to astonishing transformation, capable of captivating all who saw it.

The caterpillar was a beautiful, bright yellow. Its entire body was covered with sharp, unique spines. The spines branched out, resembling a tree whose leaves had all but fallen, leaving only its branches. The caterpillar's body contrasts sharply with the leaf it rests on, especially when it catches the sunlight. Its small body reflects a beautiful sparkle, looking like a tiny gem shining amidst the lush, fresh green leaves.
