Fly of the genus Isomyia

avatar

Atop a fresh green leaf, a small insect rested peacefully. It was a fly of the genus Isomyia. When hear the word fly, I'm sure you immediately imagine a small, annoying, and disgusting creature. In my observations, this fly is a little different. I've never found it on a carcass or in a trash can. I've mostly found this type of fly in grassy areas or small bushes along the side of the road. I'm not sure if this fly likes carcasses or not, because every time I find them, they're in clean grassy areas.

This fly is very small, but fascinating to observe. When I observed it with the naked eye, its body was reddish-brown. However, when it appeared on camera, its entire body was a beautiful coppery red. Especially when its body was reflected in sunlight, its tiny body reflected a beautiful sparkle, like a small gem falling from the sky, caught on a fresh green leaf. Its entire body was protected by fine hairs. The fine hairs successfully add a soft impression as well as natural warmth to the tiny fly.
