Chalky percher dragonfly

In a place that might seem ordinary, nature offered me a small surprise this morning. I spotted a Chalky Percher dragonfly perched on a dry leaf resting on the damp ground. Though small in size, it was strikingly eye-catching. Its entire body was a blend of yellowish-green and deep black colors that did more than just adorn its form; they created a distinctive and captivating pattern. Upon closer inspection, the color combination resembled natural strokes painted with meticulous care by a master artist.

Its clear wings were fully spread, revealing a beautiful, intricate network of veins. I couldn't capture a perfect shot of the wings, however, as the dragonfly refused to let me get any closer. While I was photographing it, it suddenly took flight and hovered in the air. Strangely, though, it didn't fly far; it soon returned to land on that same dry leaf.

I resumed photographing it. Only after I had taken the shot did the dragonfly move again. It now perched on a green leaf right in front of me. Perhaps it sensed that I was merely taking pictures rather than trying to harm it. Even so, it still wouldn't allow me to approach any closer. When I focused my lens on its head, I discovered something extraordinary: the dragonfly was smiling broadly at the camera.
