Am I Using My Phone or Is It Using Me?

Today's question is can I really stay without my phone or am I too much dependent on it? Personally I can go hours without using phone. It's not an abnormal thing. I am a man over age 50. I do not feel the need to check phone every couple of minutes. The only time in which I feel the need to check phone is when I am in anticipation of call or message. It is the case when I have an appointment.

What happens is that sometimes I leave phone at home unknowingly. For instance there was this afternoon in which I went to pick up items from store. When I finally reached store and was in the process of reaching into my pocket to pull out phone to go and unlock shop door with phone I realized that phone was not with me. For a moment I felt the need to go home to look for phone. However I quickly came to terms with the realization that the reason why I initially wanted to go was because there was no reason for me to be at store in the place. There was no call or meeting that I was supposed to be at. Consequently I was able to come to terms with the fact that there was no need for me to use phone.

After finishing shopping I sat in tea shop for a while to kill time. I had tea slowly while watching world go by. It was the kind of situation in which I would have pulled out phone to kill time. However there was nothing for me to kill in that case. To my surprise I did not miss phone.

When I got home I found out that phone was still where I had left it. There were no calls or messages for me. It was surprising because I had spent a couple of hours without phone and nothing important had happened. This got me thinking about how we feel the need to check or use phone out of habit. Sometimes there is not a thing that has happened for us to look forward to. Nevertheless we feel the need to pick up our phone simply because it has become a habit.

I do admit that I use phone on a basis. In fact I find it very convenient to be in touch with people and to do a lot of things with phone. However I do not believe that I need to have phone in my possession all day. If I know that there are no events that I will miss I can happily do without phone for hours. In this case I find a ground between having phone and not having phone. I want phone to be of use to me. However I do not want to be a slave, to phone.

So now my question is to you guys how do you feel about it? Leave your opinion in the comment section.

That’s an interesting analysis you’ve made of yourself. I trust you know how to use the phone and technology without letting the situation get reversed. Hugs!

I also do not want to be a slave to my phone. I like it with me when I am out traveling because I may need to call someone if the car breaks down. But I don't look at my phone constantly and I usually do not even have the ringer on. I check it only when I want to check it.

Happy weekend!

Oh and you left out the ".com" in your instagram link.
