Getting Back To 3D Printing

avatar

Hello Everyone,

For the past couple of months I haven't been very active with 3D printing.

The main reason is because I was pretty much out of filament and was still having issues with layer shifting.

I'm happy to say I solved this issue without a doubt. The print travel moves were too fast, and the motherboard was not able to handle the voltage spikes. It just needed to be slowed down a little bit.

Last night I printed this Simple Succulent Pot With Drainage:

Simple Succulent Pot with Drain by arvic3d September 26, 2018

Filament: TECBEARS CLEAR
Layer Height: 0.2 mm
Build Plate Adhesion: Raft
Infill: 30%

I absolutely love this succulent pot! Aside from the fact that it's a solid and beautiful print, it's perfect for my needs.

I have multiple Graptosedum Bronze in a pot and one is suffering from rot, so they need to be separated. To see the this planter being used, check it out in this post on my main blog @futuremind. I blog about gardening and all kinds of other things on my main blog, but here we just focus on 3D printing only, so let's check out some more photos.

Here we can see the beginning layers. The pattern in the middle is infill, which adds strength to the print. Eventually this will not be visible in the print. (If using solid color filament.) In the case of clear filament, some infill lines will be visible because of the transparency of the material.

It was at this point that I needed to go to bed, so this is as much of the building that I was able to capture.

With a print like this, I don't worry about "sleeping on it," because the complexity is low, and there's not a whole lot that can go wrong.

That doesn't mean it couldn't happen..

I only sleep a few feet away when it's printing, on my couch, so if anything starts going wrong, it will wake me up.

I scaled it down 50%, which is the perfect size for my baby Graptosedum succulents.

I just received these 5 rolls of TECBEARS filament.

I really like this brand because the quality is good, and the price is competitive with other brands. I see no need to experiment around with different filaments right now.

Currently the two pack of 1 kg TECBEARS filament rolls is $33.29 USD on Amazon. For the quality of this product, this is a great price in my opinion.

This filament will go a long way too. Now that my printer is consistently printing good with all the kinks worked out, I won't be wasting nearly as much filament as before, and am planning to start selling prints as well, likely on Etsy with a gardening products being my main thing.

Above is a collection of things I've printed, (mostly files from thingiverse) and this was back when my printer wasn't working right. So today marks a fresh start of sorts, where I can focus more on design work now, instead of constantly trying to fix this Ender 3 V2.

That will do it for today, thank you for stopping by, and please feel free to ask me anything you would like to know about 3D printing, if I know the answer(s), I will be happy to assist!

Have a great day! ~~@print3dpro

Cool little plant pot, bro! That's definitely a practical use for your 3D printer. Nice to hear you are loaded up on ammo for it : D

Thanks bro! I'm super excited about it, looking forward to learning more and maybe even getting some practical prints out to friends here on the blockchain when the time is right ;)

Cool! That gets me thinking, I wonder what some good designs that would fit into an envelope are? Flat things are infinitely more shippable (especially across borders) than bulky ones. Then again, what use is 3D printing if you're just printing 2D items? But they wouldn't really be 2D, just less than say 3mm thick. What about something like a ruler, could it do that? Or along those lines, one of those stencil things, with letters and shapes, for tracing onto paper? I'm sure there are all sorts of things that aren't very thick. It must be fun to be able to form things yourself. Almost like a magical ability!

Oh yeah man, things like rulers and stencils are easy work on this machine :)
I have a bunch of bubble envelopes like 7 by 10 inch.

I could probably fit a good amount of things in bubble envelopes . I'll need to do a little research on the shipping into Canada, it might not be too bad because I'm only about an hour away from the border, but I am not sure how much of a difference that makes either.

This is one of the most popular sites for downloadable community designs. https://www.thingiverse.com/
You might find some things of interest in there :D

If you can think of some small things you could use, start making a list and we can get chatting through email if you want. [email protected]

This site is cool too, CAD design, designed for browser use , intended for beginners. https://www.tinkercad.com/

Can we print those little clamps that hold canna branches a certain way, for training? I forget what they're called. Croppers, or something.

Shipping from US to Canada in bubble envelopes is pretty darn cheap. Like $2 or less most of the time, unless it gets big or heavy. You guys have subsidized mail service there, very cheap.

Something like this?

I thought I saw @jonyoudyer with these Croppers you speak of. They bend the stalks right?

I could always emulate a design, it's probably pretty easy to recreate.

Those don't look like the ones I'm familiar with, but yeah, something like that. The stalk-benders, yeah! :))

I'm sure I saw those stalk benders in one of his posts bro. I'm going to need to find it and recreate it for print, because I remember thinking "I need some of those." when I saw them.

They would be easy and fast too, could probably print 5-10 per hour or more :D

And yes something like that, could stuff 20 of them in an envelope and it would still weigh barely anything and be relatively slim. I'm sure we can make it happen.

Yeah! Maybe you could start a casual side business out of it, even. Probably a market for it, especially if you can do it for a reasonable cost (power, filament, etc).

For now, I think youneed a lot more plant pot 😁 May be it's time to make your own home base indoor hydroponic rig🤣

Hey that's a great idea!

I was actually thinking about printing a hydro system! This would be one heck of a project, as it would require so many different printed parts, and some non printed parts too, but I bet I could build one for super cheap compared to buying one.

Thank you for the great ideas and support my friend!

Dropping by to let you know, this is way awesome. Do you just do this as a hobby or is this income generating for you? Either way, I think this is dope and unique!

Hi! Thank you so much for dropping by and for the compliment!

For now it's just a hobby, but I am preparing currently to potentially make a business out of selling designs for indoor garden hobbyists! :D

@druckado , @nbs.gmbh @satren , @schlees

I've tried to establish contact since 08/23/21 but I'm not receiving any responses.

After the drama that occurred that had nothing to do with me, it caused me a great deal of stress, and I would just like to know if my content is welcome in this community.

If not I will respectfully post somewhere else. Thank you.

Awesome man, can't wait to see. I'll stop by regularly on your blog.
I just saw while visiting your blog that you 3D printed some really nice looking chess pieces a while back. Looks like the printer has been working pretty decent for you, I hope it's running smooth right now.
