In a bid to get a lot of things done and also meet a lot of expectations set down, we most of the time go an extra way to make sure that those responsibilities are attended to and which put our body system at risk by us several times suffering from something called stress.

Stress as popular as it is and as we don't want it to happen to us, the truth is, it is a natural response to life experiences, both physically and mentally. It is a common occurrence that can result from everyday responsibilities like work and family or more significant events such as a new diagnosis, war, or the loss of a loved one. In immediate, short-term situations, stress can have health benefits by helping you cope with serious challenges. When faced with stress, your body releases hormones that elevate heart and breathing rates and prepare muscles for action. If not handle most of the time, it can really goes the other way and cause a great danger to our body system.

I have been able to establish the introduction of stress but in as much as many of us is aware that stress exist, the truth is many of us didn't actually understand to the fullest what is the impact of stress in our body system. Like they always say, ignorance is a very deadly disease and can lead one to the other way round which should not be so.

Often or most of the time, stress symptoms may be affecting your health without you realizing it. Headaches, sleep disturbances, feelings of unwellness, and difficulty focusing at work may be attributed to stress rather than sickness. Stress actually works in a way that it actually activates the body's fight-or-flight response, and prolonged stress can negatively impact mood, immune and digestive systems, and cardiovascular health. Living with high levels of stress poses risks to your overall well-being, affecting emotional balance and physical and mental health.

Some of the common stress symptoms that many of us is familiar with include chest pain, lack of motivation or focus, drug or alcohol misuse, fatigue, memory problems, tobacco use, changes in sex drive, feeling overwhelmed, avoiding social interactions, stomach upset, grumpiness, anger, reduced exercise, sleep problems, sadness, depression, increased susceptibility to illness, irritability, anxiety, headaches, and insomnia.

While it may seem challenging to address stress at work and home, there are steps you can take to distress and regain control. Effective stress management is crucial for a happier, healthier, and more productive life. The goal is to achieve a balanced life with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun, along with the resilience to face challenges head-on. However, stress management is not one-size-fits-all, so it's important to experiment and find what works best for you.

In as much as there is a great health risk stress poses to our body's system and at the same time it csnibe avoided, the truth is it can actually be managed effectively. These includes below;

  • Identify the sources of stress in your life, including chronic stressors.

  • Keep a stress journal to track regular stressors and coping mechanisms.

  • If uncertain about stress as the cause, consult a healthcare provider or counselor.

  • Practice gratitude to maintain perspective during stressful times.

  • Accept things that cannot be changed, focusing on coping rather than resisting.

  • Take control of your environment by minimizing exposure to stress triggers.

  • Connect with others regularly for calming, face-to-face interactions.

  • Additional tips include regular physical activity, relaxation techniques, maintaining a sense of humor, spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, a balanced diet, and avoiding tobacco, alcohol, and illegal substances.

Remember, stress management is an ongoing journey, not a destination. Experiment with different techniques, be patient, consistent, and kind to yourself. By actively managing stress, you invest in your overall health and well-being, empowering yourself to live a healthier, happier life. Take a deep breath, release tension, and embrace a more fulfilling existence.
