¡The Underground Man! ...it's my MeMe #286

Ignorance Is Bliss

To each his suff'rings: all are men,
Condemn'd alike to groan,
The tender for another's pain;
Th' unfeeling for his own.
Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise.

«Depressive Realism»

It is fascinating how we are handing over our most intimate selves to be replaced by a machine. I believe there has never been a will to deceive others that so fools the deceivers. Now we have millions of tyrants, many influencers. This time the one lending his soul is not a someone in love with life, it is an algorithm trained with all the human writing that exists. And the somebodies of the day are executives, students, journalists, politicians, content creators. ¿But who invented that crap about content creators?

¿But what content? In short, they are asking artificial intelligence to write down what they think before they have even thought it or even been able to think it. Good old philosophers were talking about alienation. No one anticipated that they would also come for the most intimate work, the work of thinking, of doubting, of making mistakes with elegance, of finding one's own words. It turns out that in the end people no longer write letters, or even emails, they generate them. They no longer write arguments, they delegate them. They no longer look for the exact word for 10 minutes looking out the window or at the ceiling. That which is the moment when we become who we are.

Now they say: "Write me a text that's professional in tone, but friendly, that seems human" And in 3 seconds there is something correct, clean, efficient and absolutely empty of the person who is going to sign it. Personality is not a file you can save while AI works for you. Personality is a process of clumsiness, of failed attempts, of phrases that don't quite work but are nonetheless yours. When you delegate that process systematically, it's not true that you're saving time. You are giving up the ground where the self is formed. And it's not just that you're lazy, it's that you're giving up on revealing who you really are.

Aristotle said that we become just by doing just acts, and brave by doing brave acts. In short, I would add, we are not artificial intelligence. We become writers by writing, thinkers by thinking, people having the courage to articulate what we are, even if it turns out badly. ¿What happens when we delegate? Well, it happens to everyone. You need to be more productive, you need to generate more content, you need to amplify your own voice.

But how can you amplify your own voice if you don't listen to it? ¿If your voice is that of an algorithm? That way what you multiply is only the emptiness of yourself that would be of greater volume. And I'm not saying that artificial intelligence is absolute evil, no. I'm not saying that there isn't a use that impoverishes us and that we are normalizing it at a terrifying speed, especially in schools and universities. There is a huge difference between using a tool to do better what you already know how to do and using a tool to avoid learning how to do it. That is exclusively my entire premise.

Actually we live with a great deal of uncertainty about how much control we have on everything in life. Over our careers, our health, our body weight, our friendships, or our happiness. ¿What actions can we take that really matter? If we want to make good choices in life, it’s very helpful to know what we control and what we don’t. ¿Right?

Because certainly, the future is one of those things we can't control, even if we think we can. Controlling it ourselves without considering the control others around us might exert over that same future is just a mistake, a mirage, a deception, a mere big fallacy. And even more so in these rapidly changing technological times in which everyone has access to everyone else trying to impose their own reality and point of view on the future through someone else artificial arguments and alien biased algorithms. And that's why nowadays you need to forget about what that nice, sweet, convenient and comfortable phrase "Ignorance Is Bliss" hints and imply.

Reality has never been clearly defined. Nor has the future. Everyone has their own version of both, based on their own experiences, life events and limited perspective, shaped by the intimate environment in which they have had to exist and they find themselves today.

A world full of multiple existential bubbles and echo chambers to which we have gradually moved from one to another without knowing exactly why. Although we nevertheless intuit that this endless displacement from one bubble to the other, from one echo chamber to the other, was nothing more than pure social pressure and the need to fit in with the group, with the herd to be somehow accepted, validated and recognized.

But then I ask you: In a historical moment where DeepFakes are the norm. In a historical moment where more and more everyone has access to the very same tools to influence others. In a historical moment where everyone is capable of plant, brandishing and establish an artificial truth. And in a historical moment where those same truths are governed and controlled by an artificial and biased algorithm that everyone has used. ¿Where is the truth? ¿Where is the reality? ¿Where is the future? ¿Can you point them out? ¿Can you identify them unequivocally? ¿Yes? Ok, then show me!

Because then, where does that leave "The Wisdom of the Crowd" when everyone uniformly is using the exact same artificial tools and imposed algorithms to approach the ultimate and indisputable truth and achieve authentic awareness, knowledge & wisdom?

Yeah! because for me in this current world, it's way better to be wise. Being wiser no matter what. No matter how different and distant your wisdom and opinion might sound from the homogeneous artificial crowd. Because only by being yourself will you genuinely connect with those who are truly like you. ¡With those who truly matter!

¡Be Wiser buddy!

¿I have published more than 1800 posts? Wow! Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. :)

But you know what would be even more interesting to know?

For example, I would like to know how many of those 1800 posts plus my 9735 comments in the blockchain have been downvoted and zeroed without justification by the useless ignorant parasites and leeches of the ecosystem. And then have the chance to see how that new badge would looks like to compare myself to others in the Ranking and above all, to know what my new target would be in that prestigious category. ¿Can you do that?
