We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are. The way we interpret reality doesn't depend solely on what enters through our eyes or any of our five senses; since these stimuli are always filtered beforehand by memory, emotions and everything we have experienced before; our experiences. Way before these reach our frontal lobes and ultimately our consciousness.
When an image reaches the eye, the information travels along the optic nerve to deep areas of the brain, such as the thalamus, which acts as a gateway to consciousness. From there, that information passes through structures related to memory and emotion before reaching the more conscious part of the brain.
This means that when we finally perceive something consciously, that image or reality has already been filtered through what we know, through what we have previously experienced and what we feel in the moment. Therefore, what we call "reality" is always tinged by what we are and what we carry within us.

The most intelligent animal in the ocean with their advanced intelligence, dexterity, adaptability and which is already one of the most resourceful creatures on our planet with their ability to solve complex problems, use tools and even manipulate objects. It lives for barely two years. And that's no coincidence.
Three hearts. Nine brains. And an intelligence that seems to come from another galaxy.

Researchers from Current Biology discovered something unsettling: when a mother octopus finishes caring for her eggs, her own optic gland activates an irreversible chemical signal. It's not an illness. It's not an accident. It's her DNA ordering her to shut down.
The result is brutal: each generation is born alone, learns alone, and dies before it can teach anything to anyone. No history. No culture. No accumulation of knowledge.
And therein lies the detail that sends shivers down your spine. If octopuses could transmit what they learn as we humans do, in just a few centuries they would have left us utterly behind. Not as competition. But as merely a zoo curiosity.
Nature seems to know this very well. And that's why the clock doesn't stop.
