I have a phone but do not carry it outside the home. I have disabled every 'smart' thing I could, and only pay for voice calls and texts, no data plan at all. I am not tracked, but because everyone else carries a phone wherever they go, I am located from time to time through voice ID, and my conversations with them are surveilled. I have urged folks I interact with to not have a phone present when we talk, particularly about business and politics.

Yeah, that's the thing. We can try to remain undetected from our own pockets all we want. But as soon as we have to interact or need to talk to someone out there, we will be tracked again from someone else's pocket at that very moment.
This is not theoretical. I have seen Amazon pushing stuff to me that I had been discussing with someone else the day prior. This surveillance is complete. Everything we say in the presence of cell phones, or anything else with a microphone, is captured, parsed by AI, recorded, and saved for the use of future generations, without a doubt. All our business plans, our rebellious declarations, private moments with lovers, are all heard and understood by AI.
Most people are vaguely aware of this, but have not actually thought it through. We forget about the microphone in our pocket when we make plans, and this means those plans only go forward at the leave of our overlords. I think a lot of people would be terrified if they actually realized this. Anger being the child of fear, I'm enraged by it.
