World Anthropology Day + Día Mundial de la Antropología [Eng+Spa]

This Thursday the 15th I had a good day. It wasn't a calm day at home, like other recent days in my calm #life. But, everything I had to do today was completed without a hitch and in a very short time. So I feel that it has been an excellent day and I hope that the other days to come will be like that. That may be asking too much, but at the end of the day, if you have to wish, it's better to wish big (personal smile).
I know that I don't usually delve very deeply into my personal affairs, into day-to-day records, focusing more than anything on some anniversaries or Ephemeris of #History for the day. But I think it didn't look bad for me to do it this way, so I plan to keep that style. However, today's celebration is somewhere in the middle, between a matter of anniversary and a matter of my personal memory. It is 'World Anthropology Day'.

Este jueves 15 he tenido un buen día. No fue un día tranquilo en casa, como otros días recientes en mi calmada #vida. Pero, todo lo que tenía que hacer hoy se completó sin contratiempos y en un muy breve tiempo. Así que siento que ha sido un día excelente y deseo que sean así los demás días venideros. Puede que eso sea pedir demasiado, pero a fin de cuentas, si hay que desear, es mejor desear en grande (sonrisa personal).
Sé que no suelo profundizar mucho en mis asuntos personales, en los registros del día a día, enfocándome más que todo en alguna de las efemérides de la #Historia para el día. Pero creo que no me ha quedado mal hacerlo de esta manera, así que pienso mantener ese estilo. Sin embargo, la celebración de hoy está en un punto medio, entre un asunto de efeméride y un asunto de mi memoria personal. Es el ‘Día Mundial de la Antropología’.

I am surprised when I notice that I have had a personal relationship with this profession for about three decades. It's amazing how time has passed. My relationship with #anthropology is because it is the first thing I studied at the University, and in fact it is what I graduated from, so many years ago. My arrival at the university was quite accidental, but after the first class, which was a subject called 'Introduction to Anthropology', I discovered that there were many things in this profession that fit with what I used to do.
I don't know if there is any term of 'love at first sight' for a professional or vocational matter. But, something of that style was what happened to me back then. I attended graduate school, met many interesting people, had many fun experiences, went through many challenging exams, and completed a dissertation that I later managed to publish in a professional publication. They are very satisfying memories.
In case you are wondering what this career is, a micro-summary can be given that it is the scientific discipline that studies humanity in all its possible aspects and senses. It is too broad or diverse, and it is impossible to do such a study without having to divide aspects or areas to work on, which is why it is considered that anthropology can be compared to an umbrella that 'covers' different areas of research, and of application.

Me sorprende cuando noté que tengo una relación personal con esta profesión desde hace unas tres décadas. Es increíble como ha pasado el tiempo. Mi relación con la #antropologia es porque es la primera cosa que estudié en la Universidad, y de hecho es de lo que me gradúe, ya hace tantos años. Mi llegada a la carrera fue bastante accidental, pero luego de la primera clase, que era de una materia llamada ‘Introducción a la Antropología’, descubrí que había muchas cosas en esta profesión que encajaban con lo que yo solía hacer.
No sé si existe algún término de ‘amor a primera vista’ para un asunto profesional o vocacional. Pero, algo de ese estilo fue lo que me sucedió en ese entonces. Cursé los estudios de postgrado, conocí a mucha gente interesante, vivimos muchas experiencias divertidas, pasamos por muchos exámenes desafiantes, y completamos logrando una tesis de grado que luego logré llevar a una publicación profesional. Son recuerdos muy satisfactorios.
Por si te preguntas lo que es esta carrera, se puede dar un micro-resumen de que es la disciplina científica que estudia a la humanidad en todos sus aspectos y sentidos posibles. Es una cosa demasiado amplia o diversa, y resulta imposible hacer tal clase de estudio sin tener que dividir aspectos o áreas para trabajar, por eso es que se consideran que la antropología puede compararse con un paraguas que ‘cubre’ distintas áreas de investigación, y de aplicación.

I must point out that the image is very simplistic and reductionist. But it would be an exaggeration to write an article about all this, it would cover several books. Now that I think about it, if I add the years in which I have worked professionally, exclusively, to my profession, it turns out that it is less than the number of years that I have dedicated myself to teaching. In fact, I think that by adding and comparing the different jobs I have had, I have actually used a lot of what I learned in my career, but applying it to other areas, which make sense, but at first I did not expect it.

So, professionally speaking, this day was also my day (personal smile). Anyway, the day is ending, and I say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.

Debo señalar que la imagen es muy simplista y reduccionista. Pero sería exagerado poner un artículo de todo esto, es abarcaría para escribir varios libros. Ahora que lo pienso, si sumo los años en que me he desempeñado profesionalmente, de manera exclusiva, a mi profesión, resulta que es menor a la cantidad de años que me he dedicado a la docencia. De hecho, creo que al sumar y comparar los distintos empleos que he tenido, en realidad he usado mucho de lo que aprendí en mi carrera, pero aplicándolo a otras áreas, que tienen sentido, pero en un inicio no me lo esperaba.

La fecha de celebración de hoy fue establecida hace muy poco, fue en 2015 que la Asociación Americana de Antropología (AAA) propuso que se celebrara, cada tercer jueves de febrero, una conmemoración en honor de la antropología. Se busca con esta celebración enaltecer los aportes para la comprensión de la humanidad, en cuanto a su evolución pasada, su estructura social (histórica y presente), su Cultura, y mucho más. La idea al inicio era que fuera una fecha de celebración nacional, pero luego de varios contactos, se decidió llevarlo a una celebración mundial.
