It's Friday night, the work week is over, and I have to say I'm glad that overall it was a quiet week in my #life. Today we bought some groceries and also the dog's food, in truth nothing interesting happened to share it in the record, so I will focus more on the anniversary of the day, since it is an interesting topic for the #History of science.
On November 24, but in 1859, the book 'The Origin of Species' by Charles Darwin was published. It was a work of reflection and proposal of a mechanism that could explain the origin of living species on earth. A product of his travels as a naturalist and his personal reflections. It is the #book in which he first proposes the Theory of Natural Selection.

Estoy en la noche del viernes, ha terminado la semana laboral, y debo decir que me alegra que, en general, fue una semana tranquila en mi #vida. Hoy compramos algunos víveres y también la comida del perro, en verdad que no pasó nada interesante como para compartirlo en el registro, así que me enfocaré más en la efeméride del día, pues es un tema interesante para la #Historia de la ciencia.
Un 24 de noviembre, pero de 1859, se publicó el libro ‘El Origen de las Especies’ de Charles Darwin. Fue un trabajo de reflexión y propuesta de un mecanismo que pudiera explicar el origen de las especies vivas en la tierra. Un producto de sus viajes como naturalista y de sus reflexiones personales. Es el #libro en que plantea por primera vez la Teoría de la Selección Natural.

An important detail for me is that #Darwin was not an atheist, rather he was a man of clear religious beliefs, so in the book he did not intend to disqualify the idea of God or a creator, but rather he tried to propose the mechanisms that this higher entity would have implemented as 'rules of the world'. I mention this because a lot of his work has been used for things that he didn't really consider.
The origin of species, and his interest in differential reproduction (which is shown to be the fundamental axis of his theory), was not presented in a way that contradicted his faith. So the idea that he said that men descended from monkeys is a caricature of his ideas, since he rather pointed out that species that share characteristics with each other should have at some time in the past a common ancestor, at least in most cases of the cases.

Un detalle importante para mí, es qué #Darwin no era ateo, más bien era un hombre de claras creencias religiosas, así que no pretendía en el libro descalificar la idea de Dios o de un creador, sino que trataba de plantear los mecanismos que esta entidad superior habría implementado como ‘reglas del mundo’. Eso lo comento porque se ha usado mucho de su trabajo para cosas que él no se planteó en realidad.
El origen de las especies, y su interés en la reproducción diferencial (que se muestra como eje fundamental de su teoría), no estaba planteado de manera que contradijera su fe. Así que la idea de que él decía que los hombres descendían del mono, es una caricaturización de sus ideas, pues más bien señalaba que las especies que comparten características entre sí, deberían tener en algún tiempo pasado un antecesor común, al menos en la mayoría de los casos.

#Evolution, as a topic of #science, was not without controversy, even after almost a couple of hundred years. By the way, in this same field of research of paleontology, or of ancestors of current living species, today is also the anniversary of the discovery of the skeleton of 'Lucy', a hominid of the species Australopithecus afarensis, by part of the paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson in Ethiopia, an event that occurred in 1974.
So, since I had two anniversaries related to evolution issues, I decided to unify them and share a brief comment about the date. Anyway, I think I'm not very creative with the writing today, so I better say goodbye now, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.

La evolución, como tema de la #ciencia, no dejó de tener controversia, incluso luego de pasar casi un par de cientos de años. Por cierto, en este mismo campo de investigación de paleontología, o de antecesores de las especies vivas actuales, hoy también es el aniversario del descubrimiento del esqueleto de ‘Lucy’, homínido de la especie Australopithecus afarensis, por parte del paleoantropólogo Donald Johanson en Etiopía, hecho ocurrido en 1974.
Así que, como tenía dos efemérides relacionas con temas de evolución, me decidí por unificarlas y compartir un breve comentario sobre la fecha. En fin, que creo que no estoy muy creativo con la redacción hoy, así que mejor me despido ya, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.
