The Role Of Women in STEM Fields!
Women in leadership especially in the government sector have made substantial developments or Impacts on women through their STEM fields. Here, I will be specific about STEM and also specific from the state, which is my state, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. We had notable women who played their roles in their STEM fields such as Agriculture economics, environmental science, and health sectors and there are women in Akwa Ibom State who are in government but not in STEM but they are indirectly supporting the system to grow. Our present Deputy Governor is a woman by the name, of Her Excellency, Akon Eyakenyi. Her major roles are in governance and politics in Akwa Ibom State. She has been supportive of the government but she doesn't have a STEM field but indirectly created an impact on women.
The current women in stem fields are not effective or pronounced yet in their respective fields but I would love to talk about the past ones who majorly created an impact on women's lives and I would like to talk about this woman who was in stem during the leadership or tenure of our past Governor, His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel who was our former Governor, succeeded by the present one, His Excellency, Umo Eno.
Here is this woman in STEM who represented well in the scientific field and I was so comfortable and fulfilled in her tenure. She did a lot for the women both the mothers and the ladies. Her contribution to agriculture and her advice were immeasurable.
Dr. Glory Edet: Her roles
Her support for the women
She was in the field of Agricultural economics and was the commissioner for agriculture and food sufficiency in Akwa Ibom State. She influenced and encouraged them to make use of their hands and put more effort into their farm work. She had initiated a lot of programs specifically for women to take up their skills in farm and she also provided them with the necessary tools for their farm work and the knowledge needed to incorporate fruitfulness as they began on this journey.
During her tenure, several programs were held to assist the women's farmers who were dedicated to their farm businesses. She implemented farming techniques and hectares of land for their farming business. She sponsored every program that would make their work effective and productive.
My mother was part of this program and she benefited from the knowledge and tools offered to her. She was blessed and the tools they gave to her during the program are still useful to date. At least I used to do farm work which means I also benefited. My mother sold some of the goods and brought back some, like garden eggs, cucumbers, pineapples, fresh peppers, melons, and other yummy food items. I used to like fruit and ate it to my satisfaction.
Role in the public service
I have known her to be a true advocate when it comes to gender equality and support for women not only in the agricultural sector but also in marital relationships. I saw her one-on-one, during our youth conference, and she gave a talk on marriage relationships to the ladies and the men. Advising as a wife, mother, and commissioner of agriculture, incorporating the need to be agriculturally minded in our marriages not only depending on the white collar job for sustenance.
She has been a woman who inspired young women, especially unmarried ones to pursue careers in agriculture and a stake in their lives and that of the family. She encouraged the singles to be up and doing so that their husbands would enjoy their presence.
Overall, Dr. Glory Edet has been my role model when it comes to politics, she did her best, to invest in women's lives and to make sure everything was working well with the women. Through her service as a virtuous leader, mother, and woman she received awards for her support of women's lives.
