Saludos amigos y amigas, Hivers todos. Hace poco me había presentado ante la comunidad y pues también hice una publicación sobre los fundamentos físicos de la eco-grafía. Como mencioné en ese post, soy T.S.U en electromedicina de Venezuela graduado en el año 2010 en la UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL EXPERIMENTAL FRANCISCO DE MIRANDA y también soy cuasi Ingeniero Biomédico (Actualmente en el ultimo trimestre de la carrera).
Greetings friends, Hivers all. I had recently introduced myself to the community and I also made a post about the physical fundamentals of echo-graphy. As I mentioned in that post, I am a T.S.U. in electromedicine from Venezuela graduated in 2010 at the UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL EXPERIMENTAL FRANCISCO DE MIRANDA and I am also a quasi Biomedical Engineer (currently in the last quarter of the race).
Ambas carreras son muy similares pero no son lo mismo. Hoy quiero hablarles un poco al respecto de estas profesiones, ¿que son?, ¿cual es su campo de estudio y acción?, ¿cual es su importancia' y otras generalidades. Vamos a ello.
Both careers are very similar but they are not the same. Today I want to talk to you a little bit about these professions, what are they, what is their field of study and action, what is their importance and other generalities. Let's get down to it.

¿QUE ES LA ELECTROMEDICINA?
La electromedicina tiene que ver con la aplicación de la electricidad a la medicina. Cuando vemos por ejemplo un ELECTROCAUTERIZADOR vulgarmente conocido como "electrobisturí", estamos frente a un equipo que usa directamente la electricidad con una finalidad especificamente quirúrgica, alli tenemos una de tantisimas aplicaciones medicas de esta tecnología. Un técnico en electromedicina debe manejar información y conocimiento de muchas disciplinas: Electricidad, biología, morfofisiología,electrónica, física, mecánica, hidráulica, neumática,informatica, manejo de datos etc.. En la actualidad los equipos médicos son de complejidad variada. Los hay de diagnostico, de terapia o tratamiento, de cirugía, de anestesia, de soporte de vida etc..
Electromedicine has to do with the application of electricity to medicine. When we see for example an ELECTROCAUTERIZER commonly known as "electrosurgical knife", we are in front of an equipment that directly uses electricity with a specific surgical purpose, there we have one of the many medical applications of this technology. An electromedical technician must handle information and knowledge of many disciplines: electricity, biology, morphophysiology, electronics, physics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, computer science, data management, etc.. Nowadays, medical equipment is of varied complexity. There are diagnostic, therapy or treatment, surgery, anesthesia, life support, etc...

INGENIERÍA BIOMEDICA/BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
En esta rama de la ingeniería se busca diseñar y construir productos tecnológicos que ofrezcan una solución en el campo sanitario (Clínicas, hospitales, consultorios etc..) Al igual que en la electromedicina, se maneja una formación multidisciplinar donde el profesional debe ser capáz de solucionar los problemas que se presentan continuamente en el campo de la tecnología aplicada en la medicina. La diferencia con la ELECTROMEDICINA es que un Ing BIOMEDICO no se debería limitar a la reparación y mantenimiento de equipamiento médico, sino orientar sus habilidades y conocimientos, para el diseño o desarrollo de tecnologías biomédicas (Equipos médicos, softwares clínicos, áreas hospitalarias, etc..)
This branch of engineering seeks to design and build technological products that offer a solution in the health field (clinics, hospitals, doctors' offices, etc.). As in electromedicine, a multidisciplinary training is handled where the professional must be able to solve the problems that arise continuously in the field of applied technology in medicine. The difference with ELECTROMEDICINE is that a BIOMEDICAL engineer should not be limited to the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, but should orient his skills and knowledge for the design or development of biomedical technologies (medical equipment, clinical software, hospital areas, etc.)
¿Cual es el campo de trabajo de un TÉCNICO EN ELECTROMEDICINA Y UN INGENIERO BIOMÉDICO?
Un técnico en electromedicina tiene un campo de trabajo muy amplio en sector de la salud. Pero es mas frecuente verlo desempeñando cargos relacionados al mantenimiento y reparación de equipos médicos en clínicas, hospitales, ambulatorios etc.. Cambien, es común que tenicos en electromedicina sean captados en grandes empresas transnacionales como: General Electric, Siemens, Toshiba, Draeguer etc.. Por otro lado, el Ingeniero biomédico está mas relacionado a cargos de gestión hospitalaria, diseño de dispositivos, verificación de la estructura clínica y la norma sanitaria etc.. Lamentablemente acá en Venezuela ambas profesiones están prácticamente enfocadas en el mismo objetivo: reparación, mantenimiento y venta de equipos médicos.
An electromedical technician has a very wide field of work in the health sector. But it is more common to see them working in positions related to the maintenance and repair of medical equipment in clinics, hospitals, clinics etc.. However, it is common that electromedical engineers are recruited in large transnational companies such as: General Electric, Siemens, Toshiba, Draeguer etc.. On the other hand, the biomedical engineer is more related to hospital management positions, design of devices, verification of the clinical structure and sanitary standards etc.. Unfortunately here in Venezuela both professions are practically focused on the same objective: repair, maintenance and sale of medical equipment.

La verdad es una pena que no haya un enfoque investigativo, de diseño de equipos medicos y de innovación. La razón por la cual estudié esta carrera es porque siempre la tecnología ha sido de interés para mi. Ver como evolucionan las técnicas, los tratamientos, los dispositivos y mas, me hace pensar que es necesario seguir avanzando para que podamos solucionar grandes problemas de la humanidad, sobre todos aquellos que tienen que ver con la salud de las personas.
The truth is a pity that there is no focus on research, design of medical equipment and innovation. The reason why I studied this career is because technology has always been of interest to me. Seeing how techniques, treatments, devices and more evolve makes me think that it is necessary to continue advancing so that we can solve major problems of humanity, especially those that have to do with people's health.
