When Alan Walker released Faded, he was 18 (now 21) and had never studied music. Programming and graphic design are his other talents. But he started watching YouTube videos and learned how to produce music through Fruity Loops in 2012. Until now, doing homework and finishing school was his main concern. In August 2014, he released his song "Fade" on the YouTube channel of UK royalty-free music collection house NoCopyrightSounds (NCS). As you can see, this song has the same structure and melody as "Faded", although at the time it was only instrumental.

In several interviews, Alan has admitted to being inspired by Ahriks and other NCS producers, such as his song "Nova" or K-391 songs in general.

"Fade" was a huge hit and has been viewed millions of times on YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud. This immediately caught the attention of Sony, who offered him a record deal, and of course, one of the first tracks to come out of the deal was "Faded", which featured vocals from Norwegian singer Iselin Solheim.

The main character of the video is looking for something here and there. If you read the lyrics, this "search" leads to the chorus "Where are you now?" This can be seen by looking at poems like. ". The lyrics begin with "You were the shadow of my light" which is a very clear metaphor. Without darkness there is no light, and here it means a relationship where there is nothing without the other person. In the following poem, he makes it clear that the relationship has weakened and now he doubts whether it is possible to restore it (for fear that we have lost our purpose).
