To understand honey even more, I traveled to the honey museum in Madeira and received a private visit to a small museum where natural honey is produced in the mountain ranges of the island! make yourself comfortable and enjoy my post!🐝🧠

The Madeira Honey Museum is located in the Lourissilva mountain range on the island of Madeira! This nature reserve is one of the most important in Portugal and is known for the great biodiversity it protects, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and honey is produced within its dense forest! that the beekeeper "Humberto" produces in his small laboratory! He is very proud of his product because he classifies it as a "very organic and natural" honey, it does not have bees locked up in sections! On the contrary, the bees are free in the forest and produce honey in a "natural" way.😮😮

For more than 7,000 years before Christ, man already used honey! and there is evidence of this in a very old cave that was found in valencia that has cave paintings, the painting surprised scientists because it clearly shows a man sitting down collecting honey! This tells us that the first nomadic civilizations on the planet had already discovered the use of honey! Presumably one of the most advanced civilizations of the time "the Egyptians" also used honey for various uses! there are papyri where men, flowers, and bees are seen, a clear sign of a primitive "beekeeper"!😮🐝👨‍💻

We must highlight how the Egyptians appreciated the honey that for them came from the "god Ra" Egyptian families used honey as a consumer product, but the most interesting thing is that small barrels of honey have been found that were a symbol of religious reverence! In the same way the Egyptians were great explorers and when they traveled long distances they placed the meats in barrels with honey inside for preservation! As you can see this civilization found many uses!🧭🐝🍯

There are some honey jars that were discovered in the 19th century and that still had the liquid inside! basically more than 33 centuries passed and even the honey was preserved! Among other uses that were given to honey was: cosmetic care, to relieve wounds, cure cataracts among others! The Roman emperor Augustus has a very particular story as he had a friend named: "Pollion" who was over 100 years old! unlikely thing in the Romanesque era! Augusto asks Pollion how he managed to live so many years and do you know what he answered? "oil on the outside and honey on the inside"! basically gave him the secret of longevity of him a diet with honey!😏😏👨

Surely you never got to read "the honeymoon". It is a very curious Roman custom where a jar of honey is left for the newlyweds during their "honeymoon" to replenish energy! we traveled centuries later exactly in the V and we ran into the great doctor Hippocrates, this great character recommended to his disciples the daily use of honey since it had many healing properties! He also recommended the product to achieve a long life! Do you know how long Hippocrates lived? 107!!! chance? or coincidence?🤩😮
107!!! casualidad? o coincidencia?❗1️⃣0️⃣7️⃣

The Israelites were a very wise tribe that lived for many generations! they had a book called "bible" where honey was already mentioned more than 3000 thousand years ago, they used it as an export product between peoples! as well as there is mention in the bible that: "God tells the Israelite people that in the bees the liquid that cures diseases is produced" apparently this education was passed from generation to generation! and it remains today that many medicinal products contain honey!💥💥

There are historical records where we read that alexander the great was transferred when he died in a very large container full of honey! and apparently it worked, honey was a great preservative, later in the 16th century sugar cane was discovered as a sweetener and honey took a back seat! since it was easier to work with, honey requires constant dealing with bees, sugar cane does not! In the 19th century, an experiment was carried out to preserve the internal organs of a fish, it was submerged in natural honey and kept for more than 4 years! but when the organs were placed in artificial honey in just days they began to decompose!😮😮

Here in the little museum of Mr. Humberto! we can see all the derived products with honey! from candy to alcoholic beverages! Humberto is a respected beekeeper from Madeira and he told me a bit about his experience in the honey industry! His product is exported all over the country being one of the best honey in Portugal and according to him... his secret is the way the bees live, when they are in the wild they produce better quality honey!😁😁

The great Albert Einstein quoted: "if bees disappeared from the planet, our species would only live 4 years, since pollination would not occur" the great scientist already knew the importance of preserving these animals! and today global warming is causing problems in pollination processes!🤔🤔

This looks to be a very unusual and interesting museum. I should definitely spend more time in Portugal in the future!

As said somewhere in the post, we as human beings should be more careful with our bees. I agree that we are putting our future on the line with this...

It was nice to read from you. It has been a long time! Cheers!
