The result of our visit to the hospital when my pregnant friend started throwing up yellowish liquid.

It's another great day over here, I hope you are doing great friends. So, my friend has been throwing up some yellowish substance for a while now, especially in the mornings when she is very hungry. We noticed it was a pattern that whenever she got hungry, she vomited some yellowish liquid substance, not to put ourselves in a state of guessing, we decided to pay the doctor a visit and get his opinion on the reason why my friend had been having this problem.

After some physical examination, the good calm doctor was able to tell us it was absolutely nothing to worry our pretty heads about, except that, my friend had to make sure she ate breakfast earlier. He explained to us that, the yellow liquid vomit was a result of the fact that, she had no food in her stomach at the time but as a result of hormonal changes, she still gets to vomit.

Some pregnant women vomit as part of their pregnancy symptoms, which is not convenient but not harmful either, so by the time it is time to vomit as usual and there is nothing left in the stomach, the next thing to do is to vomit bile. Bile is the acid produced by the stomach to help break down food in the body.
If you are throwing up early in the morning and there is nothing in the stomach, it is expected that a yellow bile will be seen instead of the meal you ate last night. ( I think the baby has consumed that already).

After the doctor assured us that all was well, I still decided to read up more about it, you know, just to get some juicy gist on what could really be going on. According to what I found, apparently, the most possible reason why a pregnant woman throws up yellow liquid is the same reason why she is throwing up at all in the first place.

When a woman gets pregnant, particularly during the first trimester, pregnancy hormones like estrogen and progesterone begin to skyrocket. Higher levels of hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin are also developed, as the body begins to accept the fact that, it is now home to a growing being, and it needs to prepare itself for it.

The throwing up is normal, but then again because it may be coming more often than usual, and it could be the first thing that happens in the morning with most likely an empty stomach, it is expected that it comes in a yellowish form.

My friend was however eager to know if there was a way it could be stopped or most likely reduced as it was becoming more and more annoying, so we found out some of these tricks which may just help;

  • Trying to eat some snacks before going to bed at night or right after waking up in the morning, may prevent some episodes of vomiting or even a case of bile.

  • Consuming excessively spicy foods could worsen the nausea, so avoid them as much as possible.

  • Ensure that your stomach always has something in it, no matter how small it is. Never skip a meal or stay on an empty stomach.

  • Get enough rest, some pregnant women have intense nausea when they are stressed.

Luckily for my friend, we have nothing to worry about, but that is not always the case for every pregnant woman who is experiencing similar symptoms. It gets to a point when you surpass the normal level of vomiting, that is when we have; HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM (HG). This isn't something to ignore, because if left untreated it could lead to; dehydration, weight loss, malnutrition, fainting, and even mental confusion.

Conclusion.

In a case where the vomiting comes in constantly, to the extent that you are almost unable to keep down any food when you lose lots of weight, and when you feel dizzy or feel like fainting, then you need to get an appropriate medical check-up as soon as possible.
