Hypersexuality and it's Dangerous Sides
If you are familiar with the trends on social media, then you must be aware of the man from Epithorial Guinea who has had sexual intercourse with over 400 women. This has been the most trendy topic lately, with several videos of his escapade circulating social media.
This man has had sexual intercourse with several women, including close relatives, his brother's wife, and even the wife of his lawyer, which made the lawyer stop defending him in court. Such an amazing story that has filled the lips and phones of so many people for days now.
For me, it was beyond the video and the funny trend. I was wondering how someone would have the strength and stamina for such an act. Was it normal, I questioned, because we are speaking about over 400 women here with video evidence to back up the claim.
I started to read about some sexual disorders and what could make a man engage in these acts, and I started to learn about hypersexuality, which is also known as compulsive sexual behavior, sexual addiction, and other names people choose to call it.
A person who is addicted sexually would have an intense focus on sexually related activities; it becomes so bad sometimes that the health, relationships, and job of the person become at risk. It is not as simple as it appears; it is common to find people who are addicted to drugs and other dangerous substances, and we see how dangerous that gets for them, so think about sex addiction in the same light.
Affected patients provide an overwhelming compulsion, a type of feeling that is uncontrollable until satisfaction is gotten, not minding whom you get it from.It isn't common to find people who are hypersexual; the condition affects about 3-10% of individuals in the United States.
Men have this condition more than women, and on average, it begins to affect people from the age of 18. On most occasions, affected people have other conditions like anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, impulsive control disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
In order to get an idea of the relationship they may all have, I think it would be smart to understand a little about some of these disorders.Bipolar disorder is commonly known as a lifelong mood disorder; this mental health issue causes a swift mood in the behavior of affected victims, therefore disrupting day-to-day activities. There are different forms and levels of bipolar disorders.
There is a manic state where the individual has extreme changes in emotions, energy, thoughts, and level of activity. The people in a manic state could get involved in activities that could cause harm to their finances, like sudden gambling.
There is also a possibility of a depressive episode where a low or depressed mode is noticed, especially the feeling of depression like getting tired, feeling hopeless or worthless, and change in appetite. Furthermore, based on its severity, bipolar can be classified into bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, cyclothymia, and other unrelated bipolar and related diseases. Anxiety disorder is also a mental health condition that makes responses to situations become fear and dread. A pounding heartbeat or sweating for no reason is another way to understand the presence of anxiety disorder.Anxiety disorder can be further classified into agoraphobia, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, and selective autism. Personality disorder is another discovered accompanying for this sexual disorder. This disorder is a mental health situation that encompasses different disruptive moods and thinking patterns. Personality disorders have 10 different types, and they are based on individual personalities. The funny thing about people with personality disorder is the fact that they may not realize how this behavior of theirs negatively affects others. Read more

In relation to considering hypersexuality as a mental health disorder, the American Psychiatric Association was said to reject a proposal that needed then to include hypersexual disorder as a condition.According to them, the proposal was rejected because there was no concrete evidence to back up the proposal.

The acts of hypersexuality are not the same for everyone; some people may struggle with controlling sexual fantasies, others may struggle with the urge to carry out some forms of sexual acts, but most commonly, these traits would be displayed by a person with hypersexuality.
Unable to control sexual urge.
Uncontrollable sexual fantasies.
Consistently engaging in sexual activities even when they could possibly cause harm.
There are different theoretical models used to classify hypersexuality. These models are basically classified into three:The impulsive model, which equates hypersexuality as the inability to delay sexual satisfaction, In this case, experts do not accept this model.
The compulsive model classifies hypersexuality as an OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), where sexual thoughts act as an obsession.
The addiction model is considered the most accurate parallel. It shows that the person who has the hypersexuality condition shows signs of addiction to sexual behaviors; not getting sexual satisfaction creates withdrawal symptoms.
Having high libido does not create any cause for worry until it begins to affect a person's normal existence. According to Mental Health America, there is currently no cure for hypersexuality, but treatments include a combination of therapy, medications, and available support groups.
A hypersexual person definitely needs help, so embarrassment and shame should not be allowed at this point as treatment is highly required, and remember you are not the only one in this situation; there are other people who need help getting out of such a situation too.
You can begin to suspect the presence of hypersexuality when there is constant masturbation, a lot of time is spent fantasizing about sexual urge, frequent viewing of pornography, spending ample time planning sexual activities, and you engage in sexual behaviors that are against your personal values, religious beliefs, and other values.
If you are unable to stop your sexual activities regardless of the danger or harm it causes, or you engage in the act of paraphilia, which is an act of sexual behavior that involves the psychological distress of another person, sometimes causing injury or death.
Scientists are not sure yet about what causes hypersexuality, but they suggest it may be as a result of conditions that can affect areas of the brain controlling sexual behavior: imbalance of mood chemicals in the brain, substance abuse, overuse of some medications, altered brain function that creates new nerve pathways of an addictive behavior.
Hypersexuality may lead to complications too, and that's why getting help is highly significant; it could hinder a healthy relationship between sexual partners. If the affected person has to consistently pay for sexual activities, then it would result in financial issues. Health complications are also a possibility.
Inability to properly focus on work, mental health disorders, emotional guilt, and a possibility of jail term for sexual offenders. Getting help is the best option for hypersexuality, as it could lead to some serious danger.
