How safe is sex during pregnancy?

A first-time pregnant woman has so many questions to ask and has her mind fixed on several unanswered questions, one woman while telling us her story, said that she realized she was pregnant when her pregnancy got to four months, and she told her husband that he will not have access to come close to her until she gives birth until of course, she was advised otherwise.

A constantly growing stomach will make a woman have different feelings, and certain positions feel more comfortable for her. While it is a topic that so many people may not want to openly talk about, I believe it is a neccsary thing to discuss, and safety measures need to come into play as well.

There is no typical response to sex during pregnancy, when there is a hormone boost and increased blood flow to the genitals, which is typical, it may increase a person's sex drive, especially during pregnancy, on the other hand, some women will have a strongly decreased sex drive caused by fluctuating hormones, decreased level of energy, physical pains, and feeling less comfortable with the body.

Sex is not an act that will harm the baby at any stage, as long as the pregnancy is a normal, and uncomplicated one, why you should feel comfortable having sex with your partner because the baby is protected by a strong uterus muscle, amniotic fluid, and mucus plug that all develops around the cervix. While some people believe that orgasms or other forms of sexual activities could cause damage to the baby, induce labor, or increase the possible chances of a miscarriage, none of them are scientifically true.

Having a sexually transmitted infection during pregnancy will create serious health issues for both the mother and the growing child, if you are in a monogamous relationship and your partner is not sexually committed to only you, then you may either need to abstain from them or use a condom as a form of protection. If you, in the same light, choose to have several sexual partners, you also need protection.

However, if doctors notice the presence of a high risk during pregnancy, they may advise against sexual intercourse. It is also possible that orgasm or sexual penetration induces Braxton Hicks contraction especially during the late phase of pregnancy. Oral sex is reportedly safe all through pregnancy, but air should not be blown into a pregnant woman's vagina, as it may cause air embolism. An air embolism is when an air bubble blocks a blood vessel, although it is a very rare situation, it may be life-threatening for both mother and child.

A pregnant woman will be advised against sexual intercourse during pregnancy if she;

  • Has a history of going into premature labor.
  • Has a leaking amniotic fluid.
  • Is pregnant with twins.
  • An issue with the cervix that could increase the chances of miscarriage or entering into early labor.
  • Water has broken, which may lead to an infection risk.

But some benefits are attached to sex during pregnancy;
There is a production of better orgasms, with an increased blood flow to the genitals, which could translate to an increased number of more powerful orgasms for pregnant women.

We know that sex is a way to burn calories and it is a good way to keep both partners fit. Some couples testify that sex during pregnancy helps them bond more. Orgasms release endorphins that help mother and baby feel relaxed during pregnancy.

Dispelling the myths around pregnancy is hard work. But you have done a swell job of bringing the information in a simple and easy to understand way.

Great Job. Maybe for your next post, you can do a bit of writing about water birth and immersions.
