NAVIGATING THROUGH DIGITAL WELL-BEING

Mobile phones are very interesting things to use. One side effects that comes with mobile phones is addiction.

May people can not survive without their mobile phones. 24/7 they are always on their phone, pressing one thing or the other. Watching one video or the other.
This has led to many casualties, including road accidents. Some people will be pressing phone while walking on the road.

The rate of addiction is growing as the day goes by and it seems like there is no form of vindication to eradicate this addiction.
Sometimes, we miss important function because we are on our phones.

It is very difficult for us to control this. However, what if the phone controls how you use it? There is an application called digital wellbeing, it can help with your addiction to the mobile phone.

Digital wellbeing is an application that is developed for the purpose of regulating how much time you spend on your phone. It also helps to keep you focused by reminding you not to press your phone on the road, and also reminding you when to get enough sleep. It does this by turning your screen black and whiten and put your phone on DND.

In this post,I will share the features of Digital well-being and how to access it.

First of all, you need to open the application.

In the picture above, you can see my app usage. Damn, approximately 11 hours for today. Lol. That is really something.

You can also see how many unlocks, and how many notifications I have for today.

TO REGULATE APP USAGE

This feature helps you regulate the time you spend on a particular application.

To do this, click on the unlock.

Next, click on the area the arrow points at.

You will see notifications received, how many times you opened an app and your screen time for a particular app. These data can be very helpful for evaluating your progress when trying to stay out of phone addiction.

Next, select the app you want to regulate and click on the timer attached to it.

A page with a timer will be shown. Set the timer to what you want, then save up.

BED TIME MODE

Most times, we will skip bed time because of our phones. Maybe we are doing something with our phones. This thing may not be important but due to the addiction, we will skip bed time and continue anyways..

To access this feature, click on "bed time."

Next is to set your bed time. You can schedule it or set it to begin when you start charging your phone for the night.

As seen in the image, mine is scheduled and set to be from 9pm to 6am.

FOCUS MODE

Are you a student that has an exams but can't read because of your phone? Then this feature is for you.

Digital well-being will lock your application based on the setting you input.

To access this feature, click on focus mode.

Next, select the apps that distracts you.

Lastly, turn on focus mode.

HEADS UP

Some people enjoy walking on the road and pressing their phones. This has gotten some people good slaps on their chin, while others are not lucky enough as they end up in the hospital because of road accident.

Digital well-being has a heads up feature that reminds you to stop pressing our phone.

Then switch it on.

Make sure to allow it access some permissions.

PARENTAL CONTROL
This feature is for parents. If you want to control what contents your child browses and monitor their activity in general, then this feature is for you.

This page will open, then continue with the process.

Though this app can be violated even after set up, it has been very helpful to minimize casualties that comes from being addicted.

That’s a nice app but honestly for me, I just give up because I’ve tried a lot of things and they just don’t even work…

And maybe that’s because i dont want them to work or something

Same here.

Though I tried one launcher called minimalist launcher and it helped out pretty well.

The developers has this ideology that seeing icons and colors in the phone is one of the things that makes us want to use it. Based on this, they developed a launcher that has only black and white as its colors. It doesn't have any icons and also have some features,just like the digital wellbeing application.

I tried it once, when I had exams to write and it worked out well.

Maybe it'll work out for you but it all boils down to you. The question is - Do you really want it? Lol if yes, then I think efforts can be put in place.
