Nuestros dientes poseen una corona que es la parte qque siempre podemos evidenciar pero ciertamente, todos los dientes poseen una raíz los dientes pueden poseer una raíz los cuales se le denominan monoradicular como lo son los incisivos, caninos los premolares inferiores y los segundos premolares inferiores. La raíces es es esa estructura no visible en el diente que se encuentra inferior en la corona y esta cubierta totalmente por la encía, sólo podemos observarlas mediante radiografía panorámica y al momento de extraer algún diente.

Debemos saber que nuestras raíces se encuentran compuestas de esmalte dental, dentina así como también cemento radicular nuestras raíces se encuentran cubiertas de téjido periodontal que esta a su alrededor, por lo tanto debemos proteger la estructura dental de la corona evitando la caries dental ya que si esta progresa rápidamente afectará las raíces de nuestros dientes y obtaremos por la extracción de ese diente, es muy dificil y poco probable restaurar una caries que se encuentre en la raíz por lo que la principal opción en ese caso es la exodoncia.

Conoceremos las distintas raíces que disponen cada pieza dentaria los incisivos centrales disponen una sola raíz, al igual que los caninos premolares inferiores y segundos premolares superiores, pero los molares superiores disponen de tres raíces una palatina y dos vestibulares mesial, también distal, en los primeros y segundos molares inferiores poseen dos raíces mesial, distal. Cabe destacar que pueden existir ciertas variaciones en las raíces que dependerá únicamente de la persona.

Pueden existir variaciones en las raíces como la bifurcación de las raíces que es cuando dos raíces se unen, formando una sola, por lo tanto al momento de extraer estas raíces de los dientes pueden generar ciertas complicaciones en los pacientes. Así como atipicamente pueden existir pacientes que puedan tener una raíz de más que no esta prescrito en la literatura.

There may be variations in the roots such as root bifurcation, which is when two roots join, forming a single root, therefore at the time of extracting these roots from the teeth can generate certain complications in patients. As well as atypically there may be patients who may have an extra root that is not prescribed in the literature.

Por ultimo en las siguientes fotos se trataba de una paciente a quién se le iba extraer la pieza dentaria 37, la cual posee solo dos raíces una mesial y otra distal, se pudo evidenciar que esta paciente contaba con una tercera raíz, es decir las raíces de este diente en particular adopto la morfología de un primer molar superior, su tercera raíz ya iba tener una bifurcación, es decir, otra raíz que se uniría.

Finally, in the following photos, there was a patient who was going to have tooth 37 extracted, which has only two roots, one mesial and the other distal, it was evident that this patient had a third root, that is, the roots of this particular tooth adopted the morphology of an upper first molar, its third root would already have a bifurcation, that is, another root that would join.
