Work-Life Balance: Freelance or Full-Time?

I’ve always dreamed of growing up , working and earning money for myself. But no one told me how stressful it can get being a working class woman. Having to balance your work life with your personal life and other stuff can be a hassle at times.

Before, I always had a flexible schedule as I was a student and even if I did have a tight schedule I always going to find ways and means to make time out to rest. But now, it’s all about work , work and work again. In my line of work, I hardly get to work from home aside when there’s really no physical work to do.

We all talk about how in teaching , students need to have that kind of bond with their teacher to be able to learn better and that’s true. Being a teacher has taught me a lot. I honestly didn’t know how stressful it was to be a teacher until I became one. Having to deal with so many students who are on different levels and have different learning capacities can be a struggle. I now fully understand what our teachers went through.

Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do. But sometimes I wish I was a freelancer so I could get to work at my own pace and time. But then, once I step out everyday to kill it out there, I realize that’s more of my thing. I’ve been working from home this whole week and trust me when I tell you I haven’t been as productive as I want to. I mostly work late in the night which means I end up sleeping in the morning, I wake up at almost midday, take my bath and be in bed all day. On some days, I would pay for this life but it’s just not me.

Everyone loves a flexible work schedule but some people are better off not having that all the time. In as much as we all believe that being a freelancer is fun, trust me it’s not . It takes a different level of discipline to be in your comfort zone and still get work done. Some people end up doing nothing all day which means they also lose money all day. Whereas the traditional employment system is known to be stressful and time consuming, you always get the work done and some extra stuff like getting to meet people all the time instead of being holed up in your cave all day.

Personally, I’d say both forms of employment are great depending on the individual in question. Whichever one you’re able to flow with and have a perfect work-life balance with should be what you go in for. We are all different and so, just do you.

Absolutely, finding the right balance between structured work and flexibility really depends on what suits your personal productivity and lifestyle best.

We all wanted to grow up and start making some money for ourselves, if only we knew it would be this stressful..

Ture. We all have different preferences. Some want to work from home for the main reason; of time freedom, and they want to be the boss of their own workspace.. while others want to work outside because they want to grow in the field they have chosen, explore their surroundings, and mingle with others. Whichever you choose, just find a balance between work and life.

I totally agree with you. Everyone should go in for what works best for them.
