Unveiling the Secrets of Smartphones: A Guide for My Grandma from the 60s

Smartphones ave gradually grown to become a way of life in this modern era. Someone would say oh it’s easy to explain the concept of smart phones to someone from the 60s but trust me, it’s not as easy at it seems.

This topic reminded of my grandparents and how my uncles had to help them anytime they wanted to make a phone call until they got used to how smart phones work. Some cell phones are easy to handle while some are sort of complicated to use.

But let’s use my grandma as an example. So this is me explaining what a smart phone is to my grandma and showing her how it works. I don’t think I’ve ever done this before so let’s give it a try.😅

Smart phones are smaller devices which can be carried around and can even fit into our pockets unlike other landline phones. Smart phones operate using network signals which means that you have to register your phone number with a network provider to be able to have access to network and internet connection.

Moving on the uses of smart phones;
Smart phones can serve as a means of communication in a sense that with a smartphone, you can make calls and also send messages to other people via text messages or through the internet. So instead of going all the way to the village to pay your family a visit you can just pick up your smart phone and place a phone call or a video call to your family far away from you. Smart phones have made life easier for everyone.

Aside these features, smart phones can also serve as a source of photographs. You remember how our parents used to send us to the photo studio or call the photographer to come home just to get some pictures of us when we were kids? All of that can be done on a smartphone now with just a few clicks. I bet they’d be fascinated by this.

Smart phones also prove us with a source of entertainment such a music, videos, games and a whole lot. With a smartphone you’re less likely to get bored as there’s a long list of stuff to choose from. You’d probably just need internet connection for some of them.

Smartphones have also improved our access to information. Being a student or anyone else, one is able to have access to unlimited sources of information on various aspects of life and science because almost everything is on the internet now.

Not forgetting this, everything has advantages and disadvantages just like the drugs we take and smartphones are not an exception. With smartphones you’re exposed to internet fraud, cyber bullying and a whole lot of bad stuff out there so one needs to thread with caution. One can also make some money with their smartphones now and that’s how most of the youth make money now. One can advertise their business online, work online, be an influencer, a YouTuber, a ticktoker or a Hiver. Whichever one works for you is fine so far as you’re making some money.

With this, I’m sure my grandma would be able to understand the concept of smartphones and even teach her fellow old women.😅
