On Air Adventures:My First Visit to a Radio Station

Hello guys,

I hope you’re doing well and having a good day.
If you’ve been on my blog for a while now then I guess you already know about how my team and I secured our third win this year at a National competition.

Following our win at the competition, we went ahead to meet with the management of our university to present our trophy to them and also thank them for the support they’ve given us so far. We were given a warm welcome and everyone went smoothly.

The days that followed were quite busy as I was always receiving calls from the Vice Chancellors office for this and that. At some point I didn’t want to answer these calls because they were starting to interfere with my classes.

Last week, I received a call to prepare for an interview at a radio station which will come off one of these days. I was told it wasn’t really anything big as I was going to be asked random questions about what we do and all of that stuff. I wasn’t really bothered even though it was my first time cos I’ve been on bigger stages.

Our interview was scheduled for Friday at 9am. The location was about 30 minutes away from campus so we decided to meet at 7. I was to go with our faculty advisor, the Dean of students and the Junior assistant registrar but on that day, the Dean of students couldn’t show up so our school counsellor joined us. Our journey wasn’t that bad but the fact that I was the only student and also sat in the middle seat made me feel sort of uncomfortable.😂 We arrived at around 8:00am and the place was serene.

When we arrived, I didn’t see what I was expecting because I thought the place would look sophisticated but everything was just simple and it looked like we had come to someone’s house to pay him a visit. We were taken into the main building and then I realized you didn’t need much to run a radio station.

Everything in there looked quite simple. We took our seats and since it wasn’t yet time for our show we had to wait. During this period I tried to get some pictures of the place so I can show you guys.

Five minutes to 9:00am,we took our seats at the IT space( let’s call it that since I don’t know what to call it.)We were given headphones and we were instructed to speak loudly since we were live. I was asked my first question and my voice seemed very low, I didn’t know what to do since I couldn’t shout.😅

In the end I had to try to raise my voice so listeners will hear me well. It was fun to be able to talk about what you do to others and even though that was my first time I will say I did good. We all took turns talking and interacting with the host and the whole show was fun. We closed about 30 to 40 minutes later and they saw us out.

The journey back was a good one because these grown ups kept talkinh about stuff I didn’t know anything about so i justed used the time to mind my business . Overall,it was a very good experience for me and I enjoyed it so much.

I hope you had a good read, thank you for your time .
