Nostalgic Reflections: Highlights from My School Years

Monday morning, looking sharp and ready for the week. Not forgetting your white handkerchief for inspection at assembly because if you do, you group is going to lose marks at the end of the week.😅

Primary school days were fun. No one would want to be in school on a Monday morning without a black shoe and white socks but trust me by Wednesday no one would really care about their shoes or the socks there were wearing even though some of us did.

I remember the days when all we could do was wait for the ring of the bell to go for snack and lunch break so we could get away from our books to eat and play. And Oh, how could I forget information technology period. Our ICT lab was on the second floor and everyone wanted to sit in-front so they could have access to the new computers with good internet connectivity. For the big guys, they always preferred to be at the back because they claim they were hustlers and wouldn’t use ICT for anything.

The old school days were really fun. I guess it was because we were kids then but surprisingly we grew up really fast and school is all about stress for some of us now. I wish I could relive the good old days where we were carefree and didn’t have anything to worry about.

The experiences and memories we made then were really good ones. We had friends for longer periods of time unlike these days when your close friend becomes a total stranger within a week or a few days. Some of the friends we made then are still with us now in our journey and we are always grateful for them. I think some of the friends we made in primary school are one of the best people we have in our lives now.

Secondary school was also another journey on its own. From being a fresher trying to navigate your way around senior high school life to making new friends, fighting with them occasionally and coming back to apologize. Staying up late at night to study or text in the class group about guys.😂 How could I forget the boarders who always slept in class because they claim boarding house was stressful and they were being over worked. I thank God I wasn’t one of them.

I wasn’t really a fun of inter school sports activities but we were being forced so I didn’t have any option. It was actually fun to some extent because you get to see a lot of drama. Guys fighting here and there over ladies. The singing and dancing to support their sports teams because everyone wanted their school to come out as the best. I really didn’t care about all that.😂

In high school, every girl in my school couldn’t wait for Thursdays because that was the day letters from others schools arrived and everyone came around to check if they received a letter from whoever they thought cared about them. The funny thing is that some people never received letters but they were always writing letters even when the cost for sending letters became expensive. Poor them.😂

Aside all the fun, we learnt how to treat people well, how to talk in the right manner and how to behave ourselves generally.Even with all the fun we had, we were still being disciplined when we went wrong and that’s one thing I’ve always loved about the teachers I had in my life. They made sure to keep you on your toes at all times.

If only I could take back the hands of time, I would be glad to relive these memories over and over again because they were great ones.
