My Learning Curve: Easy A⤴️ or Epic Fail⤵️?
Have I ever told you about my first cooking attempt? Actually, it’s wasn’t just myself alone, if it was, it would have been more embarrassing than it is. I was actually cooking with my sister.
Everything went down faster than we had imagined. You know how Muslim parents always have an event every weekend to attend. Yes, my parents were no exception. They were more like the guests of honor. Usually, my mom would prepare our meals very early in the morning so that when it was time for breakfast or lunch all we had to do was heat it up and eat.
I really don’t remember what happened that particular weekend but mom didn’t cook. Our elder brother was in charge of taking care of us , and he on the other hand didn’t know anything about cooking yet he assured our parents he will take good care of us.
It was time for lunch and we all sat there looking at his face. He then told us he didn’t know how to cook and since we were girls we should go and cook. That was how my sister and I decided to prepare spaghetti jollof. Long story short, our spaghetti jollof turned into spaghetti jollof soup because we kept so much water in the food. Talking about it now makes me laugh so much because our mom made fun of us and that was when my cooking journey started.
I’ve always been a good learner when given the right teacher. I’m a very curious person and I love to try my hands on new things and this makes learning a lot more easier for me. I believe that practice makes perfect and until you give something a try, you’d never know how much potential you have in you.
The first time I attempted to cook was a disaster but today, people eat my food and they enjoy it. I can boldly say that I love cooking and I might even qualify as a chef even though I don’t have a certificate for it. If you don’t believe me just ask @yahuzah.😅 Initially, I thought cooking was a huge tasks but once I started opening up and getting more involved, I started to find my way around it very quickly and now I can’t even go a day without cooking.
As I said, not everything is as easy as it looks and I have experienced this first hand. I’ve been a student for so many years but little did I know how much stress my teachers went through. Believe me when I tell you teaching has to be the most tedious job ever. Even though I deal with mature students, they are even the worst to deal with. When I started my current job I thought it was going to be all roses and shit but guess what? It wasn’t.
For the first week I had no idea what was going on and I would always as questions here and there until
I felt my colleagues at work were fed up of me. That didn’t deter me from learning from them. For me, I don’t feel shy to learn from others. Why should
I be shy about something I don’t know. I kept on asking questions at any given opportunity until
I found my feet.
Two weeks into starting work, I was already handlings students and it wasn’t that bad. I was still learning and I wasn’t too hard on myself. Now, I am able to do all of those stuff I didn’t once know of and I’m proud of myself for that. Even though I’m not perfect at teaching yet, I know that I do my best which I totally not bad at all.
Comparing these two instances of how I learnt how to cook quickly and how it took time for me to find my way around teaching, I think it all had to do with the teachers I had in each aspect. As I said, I’m an excellent student, only with the right teacher. My mom has to be the best of teacher when it comes to cooking. She takes her time to take you through the whole process and also gives you the opportunity to practice.
At work on the other hand, no one was there to spoonfeed me. I was just expected to know everything like it was magic. The work space isn’t a place to whine about what you can’t do. You need to boss up and learn and that’s just what I did because I know I am capable.

The first moment of cooking can be difficult without having a tutor around, just like yours ended the first time, glad you're a good cook now, I wish I could try some of the meals you make. Like my mum would say, those who ask questions don't miss his/her way, that's what you did and now you're a pro even if you don't accept it, I'm gonna call you a pro.
😂😂 I see you’re trying to make fun of me.
Don’t worry, when I start my cooking lessons you’ll be my first student.😅
Thanks for passing by.❤️
I don't really understand where people gets the idea that every girl should know how to cook since they are females. I'm glad you have improved in your cooking skills though I have no way of verifying that 😉.
I don't know how this will sound but if there is one job I detest the most, it will definitely be a teaching job. The funny part is I'm good at it but at the same time I'm easily frustrated.
You can come home and verify. I got you.😅
As a teacher you need so much patience because these students will test your patience.😅 it’s really annoying sometimes but that’s the fun of it.
Home?
Drop your address I'm on my way.
I don't joke with food 😂
My address is home.😂 safe journey.
😂
I like your brother. He is like me. 😂. And imagine him drinker bowl of water from the spaghetti soup 😂.
Learning is so cool. I also found cooking something tedious at first, but when I got into it, i realized it was even more fun. Though I can’t cook that perfectly. But I think I am better than Yahuzah 😂.
Nice read here. Thanks for sharing
😂😂😂men! We will talk about you one day.
@yahuzah, come and see something. There’s a stray bullet for you.
Maybe you should invite me home one day to taste your food so I’ll be the judge.😅
Nop. How can a chef be the judge? You want oil to pour on me while cooking?? 😂
Don’t bother calling that man. He knows he can’t cook 😂 no argument 🏃♂️
🤣🤣 I won't mind you oo. All you can cook is eba
Which oil will pour on you?😂😂😂
Don't mind that guy. He can only boil water 🤣
Just like you.
I’m a chef 😇
Cooking is something I enjoy doing. I love seeing people enjoying the meals I made while complementing me as well.
I'm just trying to imagine how your spaghetti jollof soup looked like 😂. Good to know that you are now very good in cooking.
I can relate to the stress associated with teaching. I've tried it and ended up running for my dear life.
I don’t even want to think about that spaghetti.😂😂
We had to throw everything out including the sauce pan because it was burnt. Ha!😂
Run for your dear life because these students will be the end of you.😂
🤣🤣 this one you said they should ask me, I'll spoil your name oo.
To think that you didn't cook in level 100 to cooking everyday in level 400 is actually massive. You need to pay me oo, I've been super positive in your life 🤣🤣
Oh you see that story of your first cooking, I'm going to frame it 🤣
Feel free.😂
Why do you have to reveal all my secrets here. Oh God.😂😂
Frame it and auction it when I’m rich. That’s the dream😂
😂😂 I want everyone to know your secrets.
😂 I’ll auction it for millions of dollars
Enjoy.
Knowing that what you did is because you're capable is the key to self-development. Just keep doing and you'll see things turning up for you personally and professionally.
That’s right. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
You talk a lot about how you love cooking and it makes me feel that maybe I should rethink my choices.
After Eid, I have to prepare Gob3 for myself 😌😂
😂😂I just hope you don’t burn the house. Happy cooking.
Oh oh😂😂😂.
For the very few times I actually cook, I always have my sister clearing her plate. I’m definitely doing something right😌
😂😂 you should invite me over soon
Relax for me. Lemme not get ahead of myself 😂
😂😂take your time.
