Hat-Trick Heroes: How We Secured Our Third National Competition Title

I hope you’re enjoying your day. Some days ago I made a post about how my team was preparing for a competition and how our preparations were going. Today, I’m bringing you updates on how the whole competition went down.

The competition was to take place in the capital of Ghana and our school is located in the northern part of the country so we had to journey 19 hours to Accra for this competition. As the president and team leader most of the work load was on me because most of the members would complain of having quizzes and lectures when you assign tasks to them. I had to skip my classes for almost two weeks to put things in place for our travel. Moving from the deans office to the registrars office, then to the transport office to check on our bus and back to the cafe to print a billion letters.😅

Finally, everything was set for our departure and can you imagine I hadn’t packed anything when it was time to leave cos I had been running up and down all day. I quickly rushed to the hostel and tossed a few clothes in my bag. As we set off on our journey everyone was happy because they had been looking forward to this competition. Me on the other hand needed sleep so I used this opportunity to get some good sleep even though it wasn’t that good.

Our journey was a good one and we arrived in Accra the next morning. We were to check into our rooms at 12noon and we seem to have arrived earlier. We decided to hang around and get some food before the time. It was 12 and I made sure everyone was checked in and comfortable. I showered, ate and made my way out to print our annual reports since the competition was the next day and I felt there was a lot to be done.

After an hour or more, I finally managed to get the annual reports ready and I made my way back to the guest house. My team members were all settled and taking their rest. Now I had to look for this guy to come finish our video for the presentation and can you imagine he told me he was at the beach? Only God knows how furious I was. He arrived at around 8pm and I had to force him to finish the video so we could rehearse. Long story short, I ended up sleeping at 3am and woke up at 4am to make sure everyone was up and getting ready for the day.

The competition was to take place at the Accra international conference center which wasn’t very far from where we stayed the night but I still wanted us to get there earlier so we wouldn’t be stressed out.

The competition was to start at 8am and by 7am we were at the venue. Now, getting these guys to register and get their tags was a whole new problem because they just won’t listen.

As stressed out as I was, I finally managed to get them to register before leaving them to network. 😂 I know I sound like a mom right now but I wanted everyone to register so we can all be free and also avoid any problems.

At 8am we took our seats and waited for the program to start. The Mc who was the programs manager for Enactus Ghana introduced the teams and we were ready to start the whole show. I know you might be wondering what ENACTUS is all about so let me brief you.

At ENACTUS, we are a group of students who come together to brainstorm and develop problem solving ideas( entrepreneurial ideas) to help our communities and also to tackle any of the 17 sustainable development goals(SDG’s). Each year, students from campuses across the country come together to compete at the national expo and the university that emerges winners will represent their school and the country at the ENACTUS global competition.

My school has won the national competition for three years continuously and we represented our country and school at the ENACTUS global competition in 2021 and 2022. This year, our goal was to retain our title as the national champions while making an impact on the world.

The competition was in two stages. Twelve (12) universities were competing this year for the title as national champions and so for the first stage we had two leagues which comprised of 6 universities each. From each league two teams will be selected to proceed to the final stage where there will be 4 teams competing.

Team leaders from all the universities were called on stage to ballot for their slots on the league table. Our league was a though one as we were paired with 5 good teams who all wanted to challenge us this year with their impact. We were also prepared for them.😅

All teams went to their league rooms and the competition started. It was a tough one as every team came with great projects this year. The first stage ended and we went out for lunch break. I couldn’t even eat because I was nervous and didn’t think we will proceed to the next stage of the competition.

Lunch was over and we went back in for the announcement of the top four teams. God being so good my team made it to the final stage. Team leaders were called on stage again for balloting and can you imagine I was the only female team lead.😅🤭

We all got our slots and were set for the final battle. I was really nervous because all the other schools presented well. Being the team leader and also a presenter I thought I might forget my lines because of how nervous I was but surprisingly, our presentation was the best I was told. 😅

Now, it was time for the judges to decide the best team with the most impact to represent the country at the global competition this year and guess what? We made it again!!!!!🥳😅 We emerged as the winners of this years ENACTUS national competition making us National champions for 3 years in a row. That’s some record we set there.

Words cannot describe how happy I was at that moment because at long last all my efforts were not in vain. All the sleepless nights , the lectures I skipped, the depression, and the walking.😂 I think I should get a medal for the female team leader who walks a lot for her team.😂 If it’s for the team who am I not to walk?😅

To sum it all, I’d like to thank my friend @yahuzah for his support throughout the whole preparation. Thank you for believing in me even on my bad days. Not forgetting @rubilu @depressedfuckup @abu78 also. Thank you guys for your support. @zzzinnn my one and only presenter😅. Thank you for showing up for me this year, I’m proud proud of you guys even if you don’t want to memorize the script I give you.😅 Lets put in our best for our school and country at the globals this year.
