Digital Content with a Purpose

They say charity begins at home and that’s more than true if you ask me. Growing up, I learnt first hand most of what I knew from home and same applies to most kids. The home is the first school of a child even before he or she starts to see the oustide world and the whole school setting. Children are fast learners and they therefore tend to learn from what they see most of the time. They are able to pick bits and pieces here and there and that’s it!

This is why most at times parents are advised against using certain words in the presence of their kids. You’ve probably come across that one kid who uses foul words most of the time when relating with his peers. With this kid, there’s a high possibility he learnt all these words from the people around him at home, be it parents , siblings and the likes.

In this era of digitalization, our kids learn so much from what they see. Either on the television, their tablets or even the mobile phones of those around. These days , you walk into a home and see kids sitting right in front of the television with their full attention. Other kids you would also find would probably have kids tablets to play games and watch all these rhymes for kids.

These days, every parent wants his child to learn so much since everything is out there on the internet already. Some parents tend to give out electronic gadgets to their kids for the purpose of learning while others give them out to get their kids off their back. Regardless, I believe no parent gives his child access to the internet with bad intentions. However, the digital world is not entirely favorable to children and these children sometimes have access to all sorts of content which might not be fit for their eyes.

Most of the things we see our kids say or do todays is likely from what they see on the television or their tablets. Most parents however, do not know about the parental control system on most content on the internet. This system allows parents to select the kind of content their kid has access to. We might have all probably come across this option on our YouTube pages which I think would be a perfect example.

As a parent or guardian, it is important to pay very close attention to the kind of content your kid has access to in the digital world. What we learn reflects in who we are and I know the we all wish to raise responsible and decent kids who would grow to become the future of our world. So, as parents, let’s all endeavor to make it a point to pay more attention to our kids digital presence, instead of leaving them to have access to content which might not be of good benefit to them.
I hope this helps someone out there.

You know as a kid, I watched lots of TV and as a bigger kid, very inappropriate content. In India rape culture is there, more so then. You can tell it by the movies that were played on TV… ladies were violated and thise scenes still play in my head.

So, I grew up in fear believing women are weak physically and can easily be you know… So, they get eve-teased, harassed etc

And fear is more if your over protected!

Now I don’t watch TV ofcourse and that’s been another journey.

Basically I don’t think kids should be allowed much screen time and should be given books, audio books and other activities. Drawing, scribbling but I understand what you say by parents letting kids take tablet and watch to get them off their backs.

Because reality is not whats on there… and life is not that… You can tell by watching cartoon – Garfield and Top Cat, because Garfield was my favorite cat but know like I have real cats here and they are not like Garfield and I spend time with time.

Entertainment and fun and good times have to be really experienced… anyway… I watched x-files, BBC world and English serials like Small Wonder…so not all content is bad.

As adult earlier used to watch serials post work and I stopped it because it was eventually becoming crappy but its ok once a while. I don’t even watch Netflix… anyway

I still like cartoons, and like the minions a lot though… and can watch some movies again and again but they all actually don’t have women violence.

Women crimes can be featured but responsively… its very sensitive topic. Anyway.

I can’t tolerant very Gory scenes and violence much, mid gets disturbed and it keeps playing – even horror films!

I am wanting to watch the new Despicable movie now…that will be fun for me! And Kunfu Panda, I am still a kid at heart!

Haha, it’s good to know that there are some cartoons you still love.

Growing up, I barely had time to sit in-front of a Tv even though I was allowed to sometimes. I preferred to have my head buried in a book but, times have changed now.

Parents are busy, but they still need to raise their kids right, there’s no excuse for that.
