Cancel Culture: Social Justice or Social Media Mob

Gone were the days where people didn’t really speak up about things because it wasn’t that common,it was always action and not just words. But today, thanks to social media, anyone can get up and say whatever they want to whoever ,caring less about the effects of their words on others.

Social media has really changed our lives over the years in so many ways. Now, we even have people who work as social media influencers and they make money from it. Cancel culture is something that has been in the system for so long. Even though most people don’t actually know the name, there are always situations when people revoke their support for someone because they did something unacceptable.

Even in the olden days, people could revoke their support for a particular chief because they believe that his actions were not in favour of the whole community. Thanks to social media, cancel culture has become a whole new thing altogether.

Now, someone can get cancelled by everyone on social media just for no reason. Some people get cancelled because someone doesn’t like them and so the persons followers would also not like them. For others, it can even be because they’re just being themselves. There are so many bitter people on social media waiting for someone’s issue to arise. It’s really sad.

But then, there’s the good part of cancel culture. You remember I told you sometime back about this guy who has been insulting big Ghanaian people and he even went to the extent to say that our president killed his currents wife former husband . For this guy, no one has ever really liked him since he surfaced into the social media space. It’s always one issue after the other with him. People automatically cancelled him because his actions were really not necessary and they had effects on other people. He eventually got kidnapped but I guess he still hasn’t learnt some sense.😂

Then, we have the issue of our actress and celebrity Fella Makafui. Over the past month, issues of she and her husband getting a divorce was all over the place and things got out of hand when she tried to get her husband arrested for no reason. Her husband later came out to tell the general public he gave her $30,000 for butt and flat tummy surgery. This lady is someone with a Coca Cola body shape and she sells slimming and flat tummy tea. So, it’s more like she uses her shape for advertisement and million of people have patronised her. Turns out it was all a scam because the drugs she was selling were not even working.

After people found out, everyone came out to share their views and eventually she got canceled. She even go arrested for selling fake products. I don’t know how that ended but, if this information hadn’t come out, people would still be buying fake products from her which is really unethical.

If you ask me, cancel culture can be both good and bad depending on how we address situations.
