Acquiring Skills and Certifications for Job Market Success

Before, we were okay using phones with no internet connectivity but today we can’t go a day without internet connectivity because we need it for most of our daily activities. Everything has been made easier for us now and with time all this will even get better and better.

Now, we even have AI which most of us use for our research and all of that. All these factors of change affect us directly and indirectly even if we do not realize it.

Our world is advancing to the extent that jobs which used to be done by humans are now done with robot. Once I saw a video on TikTok showing how an Uber robot delivered food to a user at her home. This used to be done by employees but technology is evolving and I’m sure that we will see more of these robots with time.

The global job market today has become very competitive because each day there are either more jobs or less jobs depending on the innovations we bring up. It’s no doubt that education is a major factor in our lives today and so we all try to have formal education in one way or the other. The problem now is, aside formal education what skills do you have which makes you stand out among all educated people out there on the job market? Do you have skills to sustain you even if you don’t get a job?

A friend once told me that, even if I have a degree certificate and I don’t have a job I should keep going to school and developing myself because the more experience I have, the more advantage I have over others out there. Personally, I like to interact with people a lot most especially innovative people because everyday I’m trying to improve on myself and also acquire more skills and certificates if possible.

I’ve come to realize that technology is running the world today and so most people are diverting into that sector. You will find people studying how to build applications, coding and a whole lot of programming languages. I’m currently a student and in my school a lot of seminars are being organized to train us on some of these basic IT stuff so we can acquire some skills. A lot of students show up at such events and it’s very encouraging. I once attended one and because I’m not a computer science student everything seemed complex to me. So, my plan is to try and learn everything from scratch so I can understand the basics first. I would encourage everyone to acquire some skills in this aspect because in a few years time almost everything will be in the hand of the IT guys.😅

Also, there are a lot of courses on coursera one can read for a few weeks or month and aside the skills and knowledge we obtain, these courses come with certification and so it’s a win-win situation. With these courses you get to choose the time frame you wish to use to complete a particular course and so everything will be scheduled to your preference and so this gives you more time to go about your daily activities while studying. I think it’s a very great initiative since you don’t need to go to school or anything but rather you get to study and earn a certificate at the comfort of your home or anywhere.

To sum it all, with these few points I have stated, one can acquire some skills and certifications which will give you an upper hand in the job market.
