Abortion: A Discussion on Rights and Consequences

Honestly, I don’t think the issue of abortion should even be up for discussion in this modern era where we have so much information at our disposal. It’s more than obvious that every adult knows that they can prevent a pregnancy through either abstinence, protection , even family planning and many other means. But I guess we just don’t listen.

It’s not that we don’t know the right thing, we know but we want to cause the trouble and now find a solution. Although, there are instances where you can’t blame the victim for getting pregnant, like in the case of rape and the likes. Pregnancy is a good thing, in fact it’s blessing from God but some of us have just taken it to be a joke. Carrying a child for 9 months isn’t a joke and I guess making the decision to abort your child is also not an easy one.

We all know that religiously, abortion is frown upon but can we ask ourselves how many of us actually abstain from sex. In senior high school, young girls at the age of 16 and even 15 could just take concoctions and abort right in the dormitory gutter. You can literally see the blood and everything lying in the gutter with no one to own up to it. It was literally happening everyday, especially when school just reopens. And the worst part is that, if things should go sideways and the student loses her life, the family of the student would want the school to be accountable for their child’s death when they failed to train their child in the right way.

Personally, I believe that everyone should have the right to decide on what to do with their lives and bodies but sometimes we have to take time to consider the decisions we make. Even if abortion is being ban in countries, people would still find ways to abort if they’re desperate enough. Rules always get broken, some people are just lucky to not get caught.

Trust me, being a woman is not easy at all and I trust that no woman would just wake up one day and decide to abort their baby. Sometimes it’s necessary, but other times , it’s not. Imagine having a child you know you’re not capable of taking care of. One thing we all wouldn’t want to do is to make our children suffer. But then, if you know you aren’t capable of taking care of a child, why not abstain, or better still use protection. That’s way better than having to abort along the line and going through all the stress.

Women deserve the right to decide on what they want to do with their bodies and what have you, but that doesn’t mean they should be allowed to abort anytime they get pregnant. This could have very negative effects on one’s health. So, what we can do as individuals is to do the right thing because the issue of abortion isn’t even worth the debate.
