WhatsApp Introduces Ads in Status

Meta has officially started showing ads on WhatsApp. These ads appear in the Status feature (similar to Instagram Stories), letting businesses share sponsored content alongside updates from friends and family in the “Updates” tab.

Personalized but Private

Ads will be tailored using limited data such as location, language, followed channels, and ad interactions. Meta assures users that phone numbers, messages, or calls will never be used for ad targeting. Preferences can be adjusted through Meta’s Accounts Center.

New Ways to Discover Content

WhatsApp is also introducing promoted channels and channel subscriptions for exclusive updates. This allows users to explore new content while keeping personal chats uninterrupted.

Meta’s approach aims to generate revenue without affecting the messaging experience, keeping ads separate from private conversations.
