A strategic union

Almost 10 years after the separation, Google and Boston Dynamics are back together and now for something much bigger, giving real intelligence to the robot, the announcement was made at CES 2026 where Boston Dynamics revealed a strategic alliance with Google Deep Mind.

The mission is to integrate the fundamental models of Gemini Robotics into the Let, allowing the humanoid to go beyond impressive movements and move on to understand, adapt and execute complex tasks in the real world.

At the same event, Atlas made its first official public appearance, the electric version presented walked, turned, waved and bowed on stage before the company revealed behind a curtain the business model ready for industrial implementation, until now, Atlas had been trained mainly by teleoperation, imitation learning and some simulations.

With the entry of Deep Mind, the approach becomes somewhat more ambitious, allowing the robot to learn tasks without needing to see each object or situation in advance. According to Carolina Parada, head of robotics at Google Deep Minds, the industry is just beginning to explore the potential of physical theft.

Strategic partnerships at all levels.

The new Atlas presented at CES measures 1.80 cm tall. It has a range of 2.2 meters 56º of freedom and can lift almost 50 kg, its joints rotate completely, it has an IP67 rating, hands with four sensory fingers and a battery with up to 4 hours of autonomy, including automatic changeover, each part of the robot was intended to be replaced in the field in a few minutes and compatible with automotive supply chains, something essential for large-scale production.

To accelerate learning, Boston Dynamics and Hyundai announced the creation of the Robot Metaplanted Application Center, the center will use real data from Hyundai factories to train the robot in complex tasks such as part sequencing and high-precision assembly. Hyundai says it aims to make up to 30,000 humanoids per year until 2028.

The first units of the Atlas are already fully sold by 2026 with new implementations planned for 2027, the Atlas now learns, works and evolves within real factories with the help of the already most advanced on the planet, we are already at the moment when a humanoid robot stops being a spectacle and becomes a trainable employee, the revolution stops being a promise and becomes a schedule.
